Ooh you lots have made my stomach churn. Jellied eels, liver, kidneys, braun, tripe are all in the category of yuk, yuk, yuk. Bread and dripping was one of my nans favourites. I can remember as a child visiting my grandparents every other weekend and granddad would come back from the pub in the afternoon with a pint of winkles. Getting a pin and easing them out of the shell was great fun - not sure I could face it now. Visited my nans oldest and best friend last weekend and she enlightened me on a couple of trips they had to southend with their respective (and future) other halves - saw my nan in a different light. By the way her friend has just turned 106 and is amazing
Bread and dripping I've tried but as for the rest I'm in Liane's camp, YUK. I tried a mussel once and that didn't sit well with me at all
Mind you, even us veggies eat dangerous stuff. I bought a pack of frozen mushy peas today. The instructions say "When removing lid after cooking do so with caution as hot steam may escape"
I remember the 'dripping' Mum's fave was the meat jelly underneath. Jane, what is 'white water' ? Molly Mays photo looks like what was known as a 'fluffy duck' here in hotels. I only know because a lass at our table ordered one & was soon very ill. Mentioned she was 'inceinte'. Never had the urge to try one.
Favourite toast topper. Chicken stuffing on toast, if there’s any left after devouring the stuffed chicken.
My husband uses it, and his tea always looks grey, mind you he does not like the taste of milk so it suits him fine.
Cold full cream milk on hot day, yum. Even better a sneaky slurp from the container when no ones looking.
Semi-skimmed for me, although, as a kid and dad being a farm labourer we used to get all the skimmed milk we liked as a by product of the butter making that went on. Nice ice cold skinned on a hot day. Poor as church mice, couldn't afford pop
The top of the milk mashed with banana and sugar on the top - one of my favourite puddings. As for pop - we had the Corona man call once a week, although we only got the choice of lemonade or cream soda. Better than that was the orange juice delivered by the milkman. Mum used to make her own ginger beer from a plant, until one night when all the bottles exploded in her larder - the mess was unbelieveable and took an age to clean up, so that was the end of her ginger beer making.
