Mary Cook was born around 1774-6, I guess the earlier date as according to FS she married James Emmery (Emery) in 1791 somewhere in Hampshire. The earliest supposed sibling that I have found a baptism for was William in 1791 in Droxford, parents John and Mary
The Cooks and the Emerys all lived in Droxford/ Shirrell Heath from then on in, and probably before then too.
In order to add weight to the theory that she is my ancestor, I really would like to find her baptism, and if possible a marriage with a place. There is also a missing baptism for her supposed brother Thomas Cook who was born about 1775

So far I haven't found anything likely. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you

FMP have her marrying James Emmery at Droxford on 21 October 1791. No other info and a transcription only.

1851 census of Droxford (HO107/1676, folio 261, page 29) shows Mary EMERY, widow, 77, born Droxford, living with unmarried sister Maria COOK, aged 51, born Droxford. Maria COOK is shown as baptised at Droxford on 21 July 1799, daughter of John & Mary COOK, so I think you are fairly safe in attributing John & Mary COOK as the parents of your Mary but as you say the baptism for Mary would give you definite confirmation. However, the earliest baptism I can find at Droxford for children of John & Mary COOK is one on Family Search for an Ann COOK on 26 September 1784. As well as the baptisms for William & Maria at Droxford, there is one for a Thomas COOK at Droxford, son of John & Mary, on 17 July 1796.

What you may like to consider is a baptism at Wickham (transcription via FMP) on 19 November 1775 for a Mary daughter of John & Mary COOK. This is preceded by a marriage at Wickham on 5 January 1775 between John COOK & Mary CHURCHER. There are two other baptisms at Wickham to John & Mary COOK, Patty on 30 April 1780 followed by John on 12 May 1782, then no more baptisms to this couple at Wickham that I can find. Wickham is not that far from Droxford so would seem to be a reasonable hypothesis for the origin of your Mary COOK.

Thank you, where did you find this?

I have seen the census and that is where I got the parents from initially. I wondered about that Wickham baptism but I didn't see the others, I'll look into them.
I'm slightly worried about the mother being a Churcher as I think Thomas married one as well. Although it seems that the whole village was related to each other anyway, a small pool o_O

The baptism for Thomas in 1796 was on Family Search, Annabel. Looking at records for John & Mary COOK, they are both still alive in the 1841 census and both the GRO Index & FMP show the death for Mary COOK at Droxford in 1849, the GRO showing her age as 94, which gives an approximate birthdate of 1755, FMP have the baptism for Mary CHURCHER at Wickham on 20 April 1755, she being the daughter of William & Mary CHURCHER. So that does seem to fit in quite well with the census and death/burial details. Wickham was a pretty small place - I actually went to primary school there in the dim and distant past and it wasn't very big then - so I should think the gene pool would be relatively restricted.

Thank you very much Janet. That's another long lived ancestor. It's interesting what you say about Wickham, there is another branch of my family who also came from there at a similar time. They also moved to other nearby towns but eventually they all married into this branch, several times over. I expect they had known each other for a long time
