Am guessing the sanitiser is too protect us from cross infection as well as her. All the check out folks here are doing it.Would mean disposing of gloves after every customer. If they can even be obtained given the shortages.
The crazy thing about the toilet paper an idiot on twitter (i think it was twitter) in Hong Kong said that it was the same material that face masks were made from as a joke, it went viral (excuse the pun) and cause the first rush on loo roll.
Well, I’ve got down the ‘bottom’ of these bus trips to country towns. One bus came here from a South Western suburb of Sydney, passengers disembarked at our local supermarket (parking is good there as it’s not in the town itself but a bit to the north) purchased their limits, on the bus and off to the next town.
This panic buying is making me so angry, its the elderly I feel sorry for. The supermarkets are having an elderly only hour but the selfish ********** are now going before then and stripping the shelves. The supermarkets are trying to impose rules of how much you can buy of certain items but are just getting abuse back. I honestly think the government should be deploying army personnel at stores to enforce a limitation on goods so that everyone has a fair shake of the stick. Hubby and I are in our 50s (just) so we are ok. We dont feel the need to panic buy, we have meat and fish in our freezer, i drink tea black and so can he if needs be and vegetables we can pick up as necessary, think those panic buying forget certain items will go off. Ok rant over. Morning everyone, hope you all have a good day
Thank you @LianeH we have had a good day, it’s almost over, dinner to go on shortly. Chicken kebabs and salad. Picked up some toot paper today so all is fine and dandy. Two rolls bundled up in a plastic shopping bag for $1.20 one bag per person. The super market has at last got it right by breaking open the bulk packs and selling them by twos. Not the supermarket that was raided by tourist buses. No eggs though, so I can’t make hubbies favourite home baked bikkies. Will keep trying. Australia is now in lockdown. No one in nor out. Unless you are resident here.
Yep, just saw them on Sydney news. Shamefully hiding their faces after their raid on our local supermarket. They arrive in mini buses, do their buying raid, take them back home, pack them up and send them overseas, where they make a fortune on whatever they happen to clear our shelves of. Mostly it’s baby formula but I think they have moved on to whatever their sticky little fingers can grab. It’s a big rort that has been going on for too long.
I work in a supermarket, and in mine the tills are touch screens. They don't work with gloves. They talk about front line workers, I think they should include supermarkets at the moment. It's essential, it can't close, and it's a battle zone out there. My supermarket emailed me as a customer yesterday asking for us to be treated with respect and reminded that we have family commitments and illnesses too. I'm self isolating with a cough, but I feel bad to leave my colleagues
Absolutely. Why didn't they? Did it not occur to anyone that one person buying ninety-six toilet rolls and fifty bags of fusilli wasn't normal? As Leanne says, though, the early opening for pensioners in some shops has been doomed to failure so far as non-pensioners are in there as soon as the doors open. It's the hoarding of baby milk that has got to me. I managed to get the very last tub of formula for my grand daughter after daughter had driven around for three hours trying to find some where she lives (because she was running out). The schools are closing tomorrow but son in law is staying in work - he's one of the 'skeleton staff' providing child care for those whose parents work in the health sector etc.
Just saw a lovely idea for people trying to keep their kids busy. Neighbours are putting rainbows in their windows so that kids out for walks, but unable to play with friends, can count how many rainbows they spot.
That is horrible..I wonder how many germs they spread as they passed through and amongst each other on the bus.
Haven't managed to buy even one bottle of hand sanitiser yet. And I only wanted the one! Are they eating it? But I went out to do some panic buying today- what I really needed was to be cheered up. So I bought loads of flowers- every imaginable colour. My house looks like a riot! Well- if I won't be socialising I won't be buying any new clothes -good excuse for some frivolous spending!
I understand why the senior shopping times are at the beginning of the shopping day, but it's a hardship for me to get out that early. The biggest box store chain in the world announced senior shopping, once a week, for one hour BEFORE the store opens at 7 a.m. Um, that would be from 6 to 7 - before daylight! Sigh! Glad we have each other.
Well, hello Folks, A.D. here. Our move to a new apartment took place March 12 and the movers finished our unpacking and set up on March 13, which was also the new date for delivery of my monthly supplies of Dialysis products as well as the set up on the telephone, internet and cable services so it was a bit of a zoo to say the least. We purchased mail forwarding from the post office as of the 12th but to date, so far we have not received any mail. When the installer was here on the 13th he said that we would be mailed information on how to set up email. Due to no snailmail Hillary had to telephone the carrier who talked her through the process, as our previous carrier had discontinued our service. So I can now communicate. I have just been following this thread and reading about the trials and tribulations of all the folks here and all about the selfishness and greed of others and it make me feel nauseous and ashamed as I think about what the World in general is going through and as homo sapiens we should pull together to assist each in in times of need. I, myself, am not suffering too much. I can no longer drive due to the arthritis in my hips and knees, so the bulk of our weekly shopping is done via email with a grocery store that does delivery and then Hillary does the fresh meats and fruits etc. on an as need basis. Yesterday she went out and was stunned with the lack of stuff on the shelves. I still get my daily nurse visita and she is due here shortly so will close for now Take care a big to all
