just found this about Mustard Garlic. "Garlic mustard is found in our EH1 and EW1 mixtures but could be added to EM8 and EP1. If grown specifically to encourage orange-tips try growing a small patch in full sun. This will be more attractive to the butterflies but might require you to weed the bed." As it acts a a diuretic
Always called that Hedge Garlic-(also known as Jack by the Hedge) My husband used to put it in sandwiches with cheese. He never weed the bed though.
Yes, it's 'Jack by the Hedge', Chimp. Main food plant of the orange-tip butterfly which is one of the first flutterbys to come out during the spring. Leave it growing for them. ETA I see that you already picked up on the orange-tips. #302 I have one of my illustrations somewhere with an orange-tip on Jack by the Hedge... will see if I can dig it out.
I've seen quite a few peacock butterflies over the past few days - more than I've seen for a good few years. We don't normally see orange tips here for a couple more months.
Our IGA has them here as well, but not at that price! The premier of Ontario will fine any stores caught price gouging and has already done so. Most of the distilleries in Canada are making hand sanitizer right now ad distributing it free to those who need it where they work. Poor supplies are getting down.. 2 weeks since we last bought a few things, however hubby says he will go and get some things tomorrow. I just realized that might not be the best day...it\s the day the welfare cheques will be out!!
Yes, a lot of peacocks have over-wintered this year. It was so mild ('ne'er cast a clout till may is out...' ) First to hatch used to be the brimstone, followed by the orange-tips - just as the Jack by the Hedge came into flower. I believe a few swallows over-wintered here this time. I may yet see them return to the farm, as my rent there is paid up till the end of April.
In Canada they are weed-whacker, string -trimmer, or whipper-snipper!! We cover all the bases except for strimmer
I've seen a few DIY recipes for hand sanitizer on f.book. Haven't tried ay tho, son & I bought large bottles of Aquium some time ago, but i don't use it every time I sneeze, just for those special moments of hygiene. I actually went to shops yesterday to try for toot rolls & snissues [ no toot rolls other than the one which is thnner than tissue thin, according to checkout lass.] We were there to see Audiologist & pick up gadgets for himself. -Such an improvement, but will take time for him to become accustomed, son stayed with him while I shopped. Lovely feeling to be master of my trolly again. I felt better all day than just staying in the house. Needless to say it's put my mental calendar out of whack, as Saturday had become our day to shop.
Well, the oven has been cleaned. What can I clean today? Maybe the laundry cupboard....not that it will stay that way for long.
There are quite a few places along the route from my part of Chelmsford to The Easters where Primroses grow, one place in the Chignals also has Cowslips and Peggles along the roadside.
Nor us but we have the echidna. Looks a bit like a hedgehog, almost.Their babies are also puggles. They are laid as an egg and Mum moves the egg into her pouch where it hatches and Bub laps up milk from milk patches on her skin. Rather weird but almost as cute as hedgehogs. Baby hedgehogs are just about the cutest things on earth.
I can’t believe the mess in New York. It’s horrid. Their ICU’s are exploding. What of other people who also need ICU apart from those with the virus. What about them. I have a vested interest, I know. We are having trouble with people leaving the city and coming to regional centres to escape the scourge but they will be bringing it here where we are so far a little lucky. They have been asked to please stay where they are and not to do it. What a mess.
Same here, Sue. Citiodits ( city idiots) are coming up to cottages to get away. We don't have the infrastructure to handle them all, especially this time of year. They have been told to stay at their main home in the cities, but don't listen.
