John (brother of Sarah Elizabeth) also joined the army - in 1888 and served for over 25 years. His record is on FMP. His next of kin is given as Bernard (father), with an address of 1 Clifton Villa, Military Road, Colchester. Later crossed out and details of his wife given.

He (John) married a Hannah Lord on 18 August 1897 at St. Marie, Bury, Diocese of Salford, Lancashire. One of the witnesses was a Robert Williamson.

FS have a marriage Jan 1847 of a William Williamson and an Elizabeth Lockett Leake in Manchester which sounds promising.
Also a birth in 1848 in Islington of a John Arthur Williamson mmn Leake

The horror of the wealthy Williamson family at their son marrying such a lowly creature was the point this all started, LOL! Even his birth records seem to have been expunged!

Unfortunately this proved to be a different John Hughes born 1877/8. Our John Hughes (b. 1872, mother Devlin) married an Annie James in 1897 at Wolstanton.

I took the info from his service records on FMP - born 1872, Shoeburyness, Essex (as in the 1881 census found by Archie's Mum). Father Bernard. There is a copy of the Army Form A.22 which gives the details of his marriage - and another which gives details of baptism of a son John Edmund in 1898.

@Jellylegs You are absolutely right! Sorry- I got our John Hughes mixed up with another who also joined the Army and stayed for 25 years and had a wife Annie James who was named Hannah several times in the Census! Dang! I was led up a very long garden path but you've set me right. Big Hugs!
