    I would be grateful if anyone is able to read the occupation of the 17-year-old Margaret RAE in this snip from the 1841 census.

    I think that the first word is Lace but have no idea what the second word is. The family were living in Dalserf, Lanarkshire, Scotland (Ref: 638/5/11)

    I saw lace tambourer too - I won't tell you what I thought James's occupation said, at first glance :oops:

    My Harris female ancestors and siblings were noted as Tambour Workers in Coggeshall. That's off the top of my head I believe there were others like the Potters who were Tambour Workers making lace in Coggeshall or Coxall as the locals called the place.
