I would be grateful if anyone is able to read the occupation of the 17-year-old Margaret RAE in this snip from the 1841 census. I think that the first word is Lace but have no idea what the second word is. The family were living in Dalserf, Lanarkshire, Scotland (Ref: 638/5/11) Thank you.
Lace tambourer....lace made over netting? See 19th century Tambour & Embroidered Muslim Industry of Skerrie
What? Thought I’d take a peek at James occupation. Missed it first time. Good job for a bloke I guess. Maybe not for Janet though.
My Harris female ancestors and siblings were noted as Tambour Workers in Coggeshall. That's off the top of my head I believe there were others like the Potters who were Tambour Workers making lace in Coggeshall or Coxall as the locals called the place.
Now my mind is boggling with frustration as to what you are implying, can't think of anything naughty looking like Lace.
