Yes, I have looked at the 1939 Register on both FMP and Ancestry.

The address is 116 Penrose Avenue, Blackpool.

    The letter code is NCPY.

The odd and even house numbers are on opposite sides of the street.

If you find house number 124 (which is at the bottom of a page, with house numbers descending), the following two pages are all 'officially closed'.

Edited to say that I have sent an enquiry to FMP.

FMP have received my enquiry and agree that the address is probably one of those on the redacted pages. The enquiry has been referred to another team for investigation and possible correction. Not sure how long that might take, but they will get back to me when they can.

After all this they may not be at that address ... but, as discussed above, they must have been somewhere in 1939?! *fingers crossed*

Are there no electoral records for that time period?

Hi, as discussed above, the ones available online have been consulted and the family were not at any of the same addresses in 1939. The only other surviving electoral register is not currently accessible, hence I’ve ordered a certificate to find another address, which is the one now being sought in the 1939 Register. I need the DOB of John Wilkinson to have any chance of finding him in earlier records.

I'd cross my toes too, but then I might fall over, so best not!

Well, it took a while but eventually FMP did open up the relevant page of the 1939 Register and reveal 116 Penrose Avenue, Blackpool. Ann Wilkinson / Cheddy (both names given) was there with her five children - all of the children still redacted but that's OK. Ann's date of birth is given as 17, rather than 07, October but I'm sure it is her, nonetheless. Unfortunately John Wilkinson was not there, so I still don't have a date of birth for him.

I then ordered their son's marriage certificate, in the hope that it might shed more light. It arrived today and gives the father's name as John Russell Wilkinson and his occupation as steel worker.

The only John Russell Wilkinson I can find died in infancy (b. 1873, d.1874) and I can't connect up any John Wilkinson MMN Russell with the family I'm researching so I seem to have arrived at another dead end.
