James TANNER was born in 1832 in Penton Mewsey, Hampshire to James (b 1800 Hampstead Norris, Berkshire) and Mary (b 1805 St Helier, Jersey d 1836 - James remarried to an Eliza). In 1851, the family are living at Forton Lodge, Alverstoke Hampshire (HO107, piece 1660, folio 118, page 14) In 1871, James Snr and the rest of the family are still living at Forton Lodge (RG10, piece 1150, folio 37, page 1) Therefore, I would have hoped that they were all there in 1861, but I cannot find them. Meanwhile, James Jr wed Ellen PALMER in 1862 in Bathwick, Somerset, an area of what is now Bath itself. This was Ellen's home at the time. If anyone could find either or both of James TANNER - Snr or Jr - I would be grateful. Thank you. Edited to add: James Jr was living in Wakefield, Yorkshire at the time of his marriage, but I would still like to find them both!
Just had a lightbulb moment and found James Jr living above a shoe shop in Wakefield. (RG09/3424/49/6) Still looking for the rest of them, though.....
I have tried everything I can think of The addresses both sides of Forton Lodge (it is not found on address search), missing pieces, Eliza born India, the children, and have come up with zilch
well tried 7 pages of Forton Road Alverstoke on 1861 but no luck perhaps the Lodge just got missed by enumerator .........

Do you think they could be wrongly transcribed? some names i don't think we will ever find. Some of the census transcriptions are awful. I did some transcribing of the 1841 at one time, yes some are illegible but I never came up with some of the names that are given to some families.
