Maria Sampson b.21 Mar 1844, Little Dunham, Norfolk seems to have lead quite an eventful life producing at last 4 and maybe 5 children without any father being named.
One that I am interested in is called Margaret S.Sampson who is on the 1881 census at piece 1981, Folio 60, Page 21 and shown as age 3 months but I cannot find a registered birth for this child or a death. Can anyone look at this and establish, did the child exist, did her mother Maria eventually marry and what became of her other illigitimate children.

Robert possibly married Florence Gertrude Brown in 1903. They can be found on the 1911 register at Hoe, Mitford and on the 1939 Register at Bittering Street, Gressenhall, Mitford & Launditch Reg. District.

Ezra John is on the 1939 Register at 26 Wendling Road, Longham, Mitford - he is listed as incapacitated. There is a death registration for what looks like him in 1948 East Dereham Reg. District.

Banns were read for a Lucy Sampson and a Walter Thompson, a widower, in 1921 - they married on 18 October 1921. They appear to be on the 1939 Register at Hoe Road, Longham, Mitford (on the same page as Ezra John, but near the bottom). Quite a few mentions of a Lucy Sampson in School Admission Registers as a pupil. I found her as a servant (cook) in 1901 in Norwich RG13/1844/143/9, then in 1911 at Thorn Leigh, Northumberland Road, Sheffield, Yorkshire - again as a servant (cook).

There is a death registration for a Lucy B Thompson (year of birth 1881) in 1948, Norwich Registration district.

So, Lucy is registered, Margaret not. Is Margaret, Lucy?
And they are the same age. Or is Margaret, Elizabeths daughter and given up? Elizabeth is old enough in 1881

It does look as though that is the case @Archie's Mum. The entry I found on the 1939 register gives her date of birth as 20 Feb 1881. The 1881 census says Margaret is one month old.

    Margaret Beckett - Vol 4b Page 287
Lucy Beckett Sampson - Vol 4b Page 288

Sometimes births were regitered in both surnames, so Beckett could be the name of the father.

The birth date of Lucy on the 1939 register is 20 Feb 1881.

Margaret Beckett's birth was registered in the March quarter 1881
Lucy Beckett Sampson's birth was registered in the June quarter 1881

I didn't check that before, and obviously a coincidence that the page numbers follow on, so I suppose they could be two different children. I could only find a baptism for the eldest girl from the 1881 census Elizabeth S (Elizabeth Sarah Ann), so the only sure way is to get certificates.

Oh, I just re-read your earlier post where you mention about Margaret being Elizabeth's daughter - missed that bit

So Margaret is registered March qtr as Beckett and Lucy is registered June qtr as Sampson. My belief is that Margaret is Elizabeth's. They aren't twins unless she forgot to register one the first time around......

I think Elizabeth may have married a George Graver in 1885, so going to look for them and see if Margaret is with them in 1891 .....

Only one Margaret Beckett registered in Mitford. 1881
There is a Margaret Beckett baptised Rymerston to Alan and Mary Beckett on 20/3/1881. She is with them in 1891.
Is she their child or was she given to them as they were related?
