    Hi everyone!

My 6th g-grandfather Richard Miller was apparently born in West Farleigh in Kent in 1640. His family lived in the area for many years and may have moved to Ireland briefly before coming out to Australia around 1839. Can anyone tell me how far the records go back for West Farleigh? Is there any way of finding out more about Richard and his family? The details I have are through Ancestry.com.au are as follows:

Richard Miller who married Jane Thomson (unknown date). Both families from the same area. Richard died around 1707 in West Farleigh.

I only know of one child born to Richard and Jane. His name was Thomas and his year of birth is 1689.

Anyone else researching this family? Any ideas how they supported themselves? Any advice on how to find other generations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Kirsty

More children born to a Richard Miller and Jane, West Farleigh. Of course can't be certain they are theirs but are the only ones I can find on Family Search.
    Katherine 6/1/1688
    Thomas Sept 1686
    John 14/12/1694
Elizabeth 5/5/1672 but baptised at West Peckham.
    Same Batch and File no.

    Hi Archie's Mum,

I have seen the same reference to those children on Ancestry.com.au. Are there any other families of the same name listed?

Hi Kirsty, a site I've found to be excellent is the KENT ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY (see address below).
Some of their moumental inscriptions for East Farleigh have helped me a lot, although it doesn't appear that there is anything for West Farleigh as yet,
but maybe it belongs to another parish close by such as East Barming, East Farleigh, Hunton, Nettlested, Teston, Wateringbury or Yalding.
Anyway it's well worth a visit.
    Hugh.

Hi there - I have all of these now accept for Elizabeth - 1672 birth seems early compared to the other children? I am not sure if she fits yet but thanks so much for your help! Kirsty

Richard MILLER of West Farleigh seems to have left a Will which might prove helpful to you. FMP has indexed it as being in Kent Wills & Indexes, dated 1707, Richard being a Yeoman at West Farleigh. FMP also have the parish register images of West Farleigh. Can't give you full details because of their terms & conditions but there are baptisms of Anne in 1683/4, Thomas in 1686, Katherine in 1688/9, Phebe in 1691, John in 1694, Benjamin in 1697. As well as the Elizabeth baptised in 1672, there are also possible children Margaret baptised 16 June 1674, Jane baptised on 18 January 1677/78 & Mary on 25 March 1679, all at East Peckham and the same parents (Richard & Jane) shown - parish images available on FMP.

    Hi Janet,

I am so sorry for my late reply! I've had your email sitting in my inbox since March and have finally gotten around to replying! Thank you so much for looking into this for me. I'll have a look into this and come back to you with any queries! I have a funny feeling I was being lead down an incorrect path but it's still a theory and will check it out in any case.

    Thanks again!
