I will send you a private message. Check at the top of this page, just below the dog and you will see a Red '1' on the 'inbox' click on that and you will see my message.

This says Thomas married Ruby in 1932 . On his naturalization papers in 1942 says he is still married to Dorothy . Is it possible he and Dorothy never divorced and the marriage to Ruby was common law ?

I always go with "anything is possible". The '1932' could be incorrect/or not, as that information was given by someone else. And yes, certainly a possibility that Ruby never married Thomas.

If there was a divorce, you could contact the county clerk in Grant County to try and confirm.
    Details are here

Family Search is a great resource and it is free.

I have been trying to locate Thomas/Dorothy/Ruby on the 1940 census. I can't find Thomas or Dorothy Saunders.

There is a Social Security Claims Index for Ruby's son, Thomas Vincent Parkinson, b. 20 Oct. 1919, father Thomas Parkinson mother Dorothy Dudley. It appears Ruby becomes Dorothy.

With that there is a 1940 Census, Detroit, Michigan, 988 Stimson St.
Parkinson, Thomas, age 21, b. Ohio, married, shipping clerk, automotive factory
Parkinson, Dorothy, age 49, b. Georgia, married

If I have this correct, Ruby sometimes Dorothy was using the name Parkinson in 1940 as was her son.

    Thanks GB.:)

I scrolled by that one as she was age 40, b. 1900, born England, address 317 Elmhurst. This address is given by her brother Gilbert Arnold Parkinson on his WW2 draft card. So, I think this Dorothy is Dorothy Elizabeth Parkinson b. 1900 Farnworth, England.

A possible for Dorothy in California
    1950 Census, Los Angeles, Calif.
McCarthy, Dorothy K. age 40, b. Pennsylvania, marital status - separated, occupation multigraph,
    mail advertising.

Family Search has a tree where it has Thomas V Parkinson (1918-1980) actually 20/10/1919 marrying Ruby L Waters (1918-1970) on 21/9/1940 at Sandusky Erie Ohio.
I believe Dorothy was the wife of Thomas Snr and Ruby was the wife of Thomas Vincent Parkinson his son.
Ruby doesn't become Dorothy. Dorothy was his mother, Ruby his wife.

    Yes 2 Ruby's in this tangled web.

Thomas V.'s father was Frank Kahout. Thomas V. could have been adopted by Thomas Sr., not seeing anything, or he perhaps just started using the
    Parkinson name.

Not sure if you have this, but this is Find A Grave listing for Dorothy K. McCarty (1909-1961) in the Calvary Cemetery, East Los Angeles, (b. 27 June 1909 d. 19 Jan. 1961)

Dorothy K. McCarty (1909 - 1961 ) is definitely my mothers biological mother. I know for a fact that she was living in California when she died . I have been trying to figure out when and where the name McCarty came from .
This group has filled so many gaps for me . I plan to go to Michigan to try and get a death certificate for Thomas and visit the grave . Also to see if I can figure out the marriage of Thomas and Ruby . Thank you !!!!!!
