Hi, I'm trying to find the parents of Charles, Thomas, Constance, and Albert Clements. Albert married my grandfather's sister Cynthia in 1948 and all I can find is the maiden name 'Monk'. Unfortunately I can't find their first names :( Charles was born in 1916 and as far as I know is the eldest, there could be more. I have looked for marriages in the Grantham area (I assume that is roughly where they married) and to no avail so far. Can anyone help me please? Thanks

I have just had a look for Clements/Monks marriages from 1910 to 1920 on FreeBMD and found three: Edmonton, Dartford and Chelmsford. There is no guarantee that they married in Lincolnshire - or that the maiden name of the mother was used if she was married previously, if you see what I mean.

However, rather than making a stab in the dark, the best way would be to obtain a copy of Albert's birth certificate as that will give you the information to search for the marriage as well as possible census entries.

There is also a Reginald registered in Grantham 8 years after Charles, but like Jan cannot find a Lincolnshire marriage, there is another in Totnes in 1909 - Thomas Herbert to either Emma Monk or Ellen Frances Harradon.

thank you both so much, I had seen the above too and that had me thinking they could have married outside the county. I have asked the granddaughter if she knows the names and/or where they married. The remarrying point is a very good one too. I shall look into obtaining a copy of the birth cert. I have so many of those to buy!

I have just been informed that she had married again and to try the surname Turner. I wasn't a first name just 'granny Clements' o_O

    Marriages Mar 1907

Francis Arthur T ELLER married Cora Cecilia C Lewis in Stockton 10a 88.

Cora's full name was Cora Cecilia Constance Huron Lewis.

To try and ascertain if Francis and Cora were Irvin's parents I tried looking for a birth for Irvin but couldn't find one.

Isobel was their daughter born c1909. She apparently was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. Her full name was Isobel Cora Francis Huron Eller.

Having looked at the in-coming passengers from New York, arriving at Liverpool on 2nd July 1916 on the St. Louis there is an Irvin.

Francis (minister) Cora (wife) Isobel, ?, Alice and Irvin. So looks like Irvin was also born abroad.

He seems to have gone by a different name to what he was baptised with. familysearch have the image of his baptism and that gives his name as Irvin Francis Lewis Eller born 27 April 1916 Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts, baptised 25th May 1916. Father Francis A T Eller, Mother Cora C Lewis

    Hi there
    Hhttp:
    //archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CLEMENTS/2010-12/1292949125

This old rootsweb post may be of interest, tho it does not seem to be accurate - eg the 1891 marriage may be to Edith Taylor, not Turner and the 1916 is to Eliza Turner not Monk. The suggestion that Charles William had been previously married may be worth checking out however.

Now to get rid of Albert

If this is the correct marriage Albert dying in 1914 would leave Eliza free to marry Charles William Clements in 1916

Well done Chimp - I had been trying to find the Monk/Turner marriage without success, probably because I started at 1900!

I couldn't find it for ages either MollyMay because I limited the search to Lincolnshire. It was only after widening my search that I found it.

Albert and Eliza can be found in Derby in 1901 RG13/3216/110/5 - it appears both are born in Derbyshire
Eliza and her family are on the 1891 RG12/2727/135/16 and 1881 RG11/3400/30/7 in Derbyshire.
