I am seeking any information on Sir Nicholas Stoughton-his exact birth, marriage and death dates, plus locations of marriage and death, if known, in addition to names of children, if he had any. I do know his parents were Anthony Stoughton and Agnes Pierce, and he had a sister, Rose. Thank you for your assistance!

Hi Menika - could you provide us with a rough time-frame, please? :)

If it is the same as this chap, there is some information on Wikipedia:

Jan, this Nicholas Stoughton must be an uncle or cousin to the Nicholas Stoughton I'm seeking information on. The Nicholas Stoughton I'm looking for was born ca 1634 and died ca 1682.

A tree here has Nicholas marrying Elizabeth (daughter of Sir Henry Massingberd) in 1662, having children Frances, Henrietta and Lawrence, and dying on 30 June 1686.

The notes further down the page refer to an 'autobiography and history of his family' written by Sir Nicholas and in the British Museum - this is probably now in the British Library Add. MS 6174.

This edition of The Ancestor ('a quarterly review of county and family history, heraldry and antiquities') says that the marriage of Elizabeth Massingberd and Sir Nicholas Stoughton was at East Barnet, Herts, on 2 June 1662:

There's a PCC will (probate date 1691) for Sir Nicholas Stoughton of Stoughton, Surrey. If you have an Ancestry subscription you should be able to see the will there. If not, you can pay £3.30 to download a copy from The National Archives' website: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D739338

The handwriting may well be tricky but I'm sure people here will help out if necessary.

A volume of 'Surrey Archaeological Collections' (1919) on Google Books has this informative monumental inscription - maybe from Stoughton but only parts of the text are visible. The first part evidently relates to Sir Nicholas' wife, Elizabeth:

....Sir Henry Massingberd, bart., of Bratoft, Lincs., by his [first] wife Elizabeth, daughter of William Lister, esq., of Colby, Lincs., and wife of Sir Nicholas Stoughton, bart., mother of one son Laurence, and eight daughters of whom four, Elizabeth, Frances, Henrietta and Sarah, survived her; she dec. 6 Septem....

    ...Also Sir Nicholas Stoughton, bart., dec. 30 June, 1686, aged 53 . . .
If the Stoughton parish registers for this period are on Ancestry they may help with filling in details.
