Sarah Morris appears on the 1871 census living in the parish of Stanton Lacy - Sandpits, Ludlow Shropshire. (RG10, Piece number 2724, Folio 79, Page 16)

She has 3 children with her

    Frederick 7
    Rowland 2
    Emily 6 months

Can someone please tell me what it says under 'Condition'

My daughter says maybe she had children by a very rich suitor who was already married to somebody else. That's her hypothesis on this .She is my trainee genealogist and has a different way of looking at things ,but you never know!

I have just found a marriage for her. 13 Mar 1879, Ludlow to John Tench. She give her father as William Morris. So I would say unmarried is the more likely.

I wonder if John Tench was the 'rich suitor'.

He could well have been.On the 1861 she is with her widowed mother and an 11 month old grandson.Unmarried here as well and I would guess that the child Arthur is hers as well

Could this be the Arthur Morris who is 11 years old and a boarder at a boys school in Leominster. Says born Ludlow.

No way to be certain I suppose.

Have found a marriage for Rowland, Sarah's son. He seems to have taken his step father.

    Marriages Jun 1900
Rowland Morris Tench married Helen Amy Bursell Nottingham 7b 515

I know this is their marriage as they are both buried in my town.

Why Nottingham..... It's not very well covered when it comes to online registers :(

Slight correction to the above. There is a plaque in our church. Don't have an actual burial place.
