According to FMP (of which I don't have a sub. at the moment) Harriet Ellen Edwards and William John Richards both got married in Greenwich in 1883. I am hoping this was to each other and I am hoping it shows Harriet's parents as William and Martha. I have followed them through their married life and have Harriet's information until her marriage as well. I just haven't found when they married. Harriet had a sister, Ann E. Edwards.. I believe the E was for Elizabeth. Before she married I have her on census, but I can't find a marriage or married name for her, although in the 1881 census there is a grandchild with the name of Edward McIntyre with her parents. ( might be her son, maybe not!) There are 3 marriages for an Ann E, Edwards on FMP.. one in 1882 one in 1874 and one in 1871.. Would someone please check these marriages for me.? Thanking you in advance!
Robert McIntyre, with his son Robert age 3 can be found in 1881 back with his parents - a widower. RG11/31/10/13 - 66 Portland Road, Kensington GRO index birth Death
Thank you @MollyMay and @Chimp! I had forgotten that you can now look on GRO for information. So sad.. That would explain why Edward was with his grandparents on his Mom's side. I have a project for tonight. Now I still need to find the marriage for William John Richards and Harriet Ellen Edwards. Thankfully, that's all I need for them as their other records are easy to follow until they came to Canada and the privacy laws kick in ( I do have their deaths, though) ! Interesting fact... when reading the marriage certificate it appears that the one witness was Ann's paternal grandmother, unless of course there wasn't another Susan in the family as I haven't searched out all the siblings of her Dad.. I'm slowly working my way back when I have free time.
I have looked everywhere that I can think of for the marriage of Harriet Ellen and William John, other than the registration, but I cannot find a copy of the marriage cert online
I think that you might have to bite the bullet and order the certificate. The other couple on the page are William FITZGERALD and Mary SULLIVAN. I had a rummage in the 1891 census for this William and found him with a wife Mary. Their eldest child was Ellen, aged 7. Second rummage for Ellen's birth and found it with mmn of SULLIVAN. Ergo, I reckon that it was to each other.
It was to each other! According to all the census, immigration and deaths they were married. I was hoping for a parish record as the rest of the family all had parish marriages. Another one to add to my list of "need to order"
Which is born out by the death of their son. Leslie Frank Richards Death Date: 6th January 1980, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada Age: 80 Marital Status: Married Birth Date: 6th December 1899, London, England Father's Name: William John Richards Mother's Name: Harriet Ellen Edwards Spouse's Name: Winnifred May Greenfield
I have quickly found a lot of information on Edward..he's buried in the same cemetery as my maternal grandfather... Next trip to BC I will be checking that out..so much more I can find when I am home tonight...must get back to work. Thank you again.
Yes... in Winnipeg or as Canadians call it..." Winterpeg" I found them when I was researching before I went to Calgary last month as I was reading information about my gr. grandfather. His obit mentioned his sister Harriet in Winnipeg so the search has resumed since I got back home. I visited his grave in Calgary and added it to my list of graves in the family to buy headstones for when I win a lottery!! His 2nd wife, Sarah has a headstone, but he doesn't. He is mentioned as her husband on it, though. Very sad shape it is in.
Confusing family when I dig deeper... Edward Andrew Newcombe McIntyre has 2 sons named Edward on the 1921 Can. census One is Frank Edward and the other Edward Newcombe but the census just shows Edward!! Now I'm getting confused... time for a break and I will sort them out tomorrow!!
Just an update.... I am now in contact with a DNA cousin who is descended from these folks.. DNA is helpful, isn't it? !!!
