From the Cornwall OPC I have discovered the burial record of Mr. Hall on 20 November 1928 in Perranzabuloe, Cornwall.

The notes from the record are:
Certificate given under the Burial Laws Amendment Act by T. TREMEWAN.

    Mr. Hall was aged 90.

Can someone explain what this means?

    Thanks

Suggest the following which may be of some help 'legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Vict/43-44/41/enacted' especially the very bottom of the document which has 2 sections that can be completed as appropriate.

It could be that, until 1926, the death certificate had to be passed directly from the registrar to the person performing the burial. The Act of 1926, Section 11 - Order of the Coroner or certificate of registrar to be delivered to relative etc instead of to person who buries.

Thank you both. He isn't really a person in my tree - I was just curious

The Burial Laws Amendment Act 1880 made it possible for a person to be buried in a churchyard without the usual rites of the Church of England, subject to service of a notice, and absolved the incumbent from any penalty ecclesiastical or civil for allowing such a burial to take place.

See here for details. This is the link given by Qsecofr in post #2.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Colin,
T (Tom) Tremewan, was my uncle, and the local builder and funeral director in Perranporth, Cornwall, UK, at this time. That is how his name came to be on the burial certificate. This had to be signed before the burial could take place.
I grew up in Perranporth, my maiden name was Tremewan, so I was interested to read your post.

Hello Jane and welcome to T-D.
Ezekiel is distantly related to a 5th cousin and then only by marriage. What prompted my inquiry was the wording [highlighted]. My connection Tremewan is non-existent but I'm happy my post led you to this forum.

    Have a great day.
