Following on from my murdering ancestor - to whom I am only related by marriage ;) - I am trying to find out a bit more about his wife, my Great Aunt Mill, my Gran's sister.

A cousin of mine had recorded,"During the second world war, Mill was admitted to hospital, where she had part of her leg amputated. As the doodlebugs were screaming overhead, she and the rest of the patients were evacuated to Scotland, where she later died." No dates.

Millicent was still alive in June 1944, as the Surrey Mirror has an article about her and Reg FULLILOVE celebrating their silver wedding anniversary. However, the following August, the marriage announcement of her daughter refers to her as the late Mrs FULLILOVE. So she died between June 1944 and August 1945.

What I am interested in is identifying which hospital this might have been that evacuated their patients to Scotland.

All help gratefully received. :)

On April 7th, 1945, at the E.M.S Hospital, Gartloch, Scotland, Millicent Fullilove, beloved wife of Bmdr. Fullilove, of 56, Grovehlll-rd., Redhill, after a long illness patiently and cheerfully borne.

I thought I'd have a look and see if there was a report of Millicent's funeral - and guess what?

The funeral of Mrs Millicent Fullilove, of Grovehill-road, Redhill, who died on April 7th, aged 53 years, took place last Thursday, the interment in Redstone Cemetery being preceded by a service in the Cemetery Church, conducted by the Rev. H. R. Oakley. The mourners were; Mr Fullilove (husband), Miss J. Fullilove (daughter), Mr and Mrs E. Goldsmith (brother and sister-in-law), Mr C. Goldsmith (brother), Mr and Mrs J. Hart (brother-in-law and sister), Mr and Mrs G. Goldsmith (brother and sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs R. Beadle, Mr and Mrs S. Gander and Mr and Mrs T. Lee (brothers-in-law and sisters), Mr and Mrs A. Goldsmith, Mr and Mrs J. Goldsmith and Mr and Mrs P. Goldsmith (brothers and sisters-in-law), Mrs S. Quilley and Miss P. Hart (nieces), Mrs L. Chapman, Mrs C. Chapman, Mrs C. Hobden and Miss Elsey (friends) — The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. J. Stoneman and Sons Ltd., of Redhill and Reigate.

My Gran is listed - as is my Mum... and Grandad! (He died later that year). I recognise all the names listed - aren't funeral notices wonderful?
