Albert Edward Ashcroft was born Walmer, Kent, England; Reg. Eastry V2a p867. Father Robert Ashcroft, mother Sarah Ann Wild.
Married Winifred Moore 15 Dec 1888, Collyhurst, Albert Memorial Church, Manchester, England; Children John R b 1889, Albert Edward b 1894; Elizabeth b. 1896; William b. 1902; George b. 1907. Winifred Ashcroft says she is a Widow on 1911 Census ( RD No. 467, ED, institution, or vessel 16 Piece 24269) but I cannot find a Death record for her husband. I believe he may have been a Merchant Seaman as he seems absent at Census times but there are some ships' crew with an Albert Ashcroft between 1888 and 1901.
His last child with Winifred was born 1907 so that narrows down the possible DoD.
Have tried FreeBMD, GRO, FamilySearch and British deaths abroad and on Ships.
Is this another lost Ashcroft or did he do a bunk to the USA?

Hmm. So this one isn't a sailor - can a Sawmill Machinist get lost as easily as a sailor?

Did a quick check on HeritageQuest of U.S. Census which did not get any exact hits. There were a few Alberts, not English and/or not b. 1868-ish. There were a few Edwards, one in Rhode Island, married to Sarah, occ. Machinist, year of immigration 1888. He might be worth a closer look, if you think yours might have been up to a double life.

National Archives Australia has a WW2 enlistment for an Albert Ashcroft. He was born in Peterborough Canada on 17/10/1911.
I know there are hundreds of men of this name but perhaps Albert Edward may have decamped to Canada.
    Worth a look?

William 1902 and George 1907 may not have been Alberts children.

He would be too old for WW2 as born 1868. His son may have gone to Canada later but he seemed to marry and settle in the UK.

Now given up on Albert Edward Ashcroft for the moment. No solid leads after lots of searching. I also discovered at least 6 other Ashcrofts whose births or deaths are not in the official records. I think they must be genetically careless!
