He is my g g grandfather and I am hoping to find his baptismal record. He was a merchant seaman, almost certainly working out of Liverpool, where he married my g g grandmother in 1854.

His marriage certificate names his father as Thomas Robinson, also a merchant seaman, but merely states he was a bachelor of full age.

The only other information I have been able to find for him comes from the 1861 census. He was living at the same Liverpool address as that given on my great grandmother's birth certificate. According to the census return he was born about 1819 on Jersey.

Thanks Chimp. This guy is a real pain in the neck, and other places. My great grandma was a widow when she married my g granddad, and according to her first marriage certificate, dated 1877, he was the late Mr Robinson.

For a while it looked like he was one of the crew who died when the clipper ship Blue Jacket caught fire and was abandoned off the Falkland Islands, but have satisfied myself he was a namesake from Liverpool after finding his wife listed as a widow in subsequent census returns.

Have also found a Channel Islands site listing BMD records. Hope their listings are incomplete for now as there was nothing to found for either an Alexander baptism or a Thomas marriage.

I have just found the following on the Jersey Archives Information Leaflet:

Thank you for that Jan, it could be just what I am looking for. Right now there are a number of other things that have to take priority but will be shooting off an e-mail ASAP, with everything crossed.
