The 1841 census - H0107/428/22/6/7 - in Rickmansworth lists with surname transcribed as ROWLIDGE:
    Robert age 31
    Catharine age 28
    Elizabeth age 9
    William age 8
    Alfred age 7
    Emma age 5
    Samuel age 3
    Eliza age 1
I have all baptism records [except Emma's] and can confirm via GRO that the MMN for Samuel and Eliza was CLAY.

When I view 1851 census - H0107/1714/399/10 - in Rickmansworth, Elizabeth, William, Alfred and Emma are not with them. Elizabeth [I have not found], William died in 1849, Alfred was working as a Baker's Lab [H0107/1714/399/10] and living next door and Emma died around the same time William died. At home were:
    Samuel age 12
    Eliza age 11
    John age 10
    Susan age 5
    Mary Anne age 2mos.
They also had a son David [born 1843/died 1849] and a daughter Hannah [born 1848/died 1849]. With the exception of John I have confirmed MMN for the children born after 1837 as CLAY.

John went on to marry Jane Woolard in Rickmansworth on 24 Apr. 1870. He is my 2nd Greatgrandfather. I cannot find anything on a birth registration in Watford Union which is the R.D. for Rickmansworth.

The children that died late summer of 1849 - William, Emma, David and Hannah - all died of Cholera within days of each other.

There is the birth of a John Rowlidge on FreeBMD registered in the September quarter of 1841 in Watford - and checking on the GRO index, the MMN was Clay :)

That matches up with the earlier baptisms and registrations as ROWLIDGE - not sure how I missed it [maybe put in the gender as Female]

I found him on the GRO:
    ROWLIDGE, JOHN CLAY [IMG]
GRO Reference: 1841 S Quarter in WATFORD UNION Volume 06 Page 559

Having an attack of name blindness?? I often do...
