    L(ef)t groin. Subsequent to variocele(?); suppurated leading to ridolent ulcer. Iodoform.

    The other words appear to be signatures.

    Basically, it seems that he had an ulcerated varicose vein which was treated with chloroform, which is an iodine based antiseptic.

    That's my take on it..... :)

    1901 Census a Pamela m DENNIS aged 17 is living with her parents at 10 Summer Row Wolverhampton
    1903 a Mary Violet DENNIS is born in Wolverhampton to an unmarried mother
    03/06/1904 L/Cpl JOhn Davies 5135 of the South Staffs Reg arrives back in the UK
    From 28/08/1904 to 08/04/1904 he is in Lichfield military hospital or Fleetwood hospital
    14/09/1905 he is transferred to Army Reserve Section B, and gives his intended address as 10 Summer Row Wolverhampton.
    Sep Qtr 1905 a John DAVIES marries a Pamila DENNIS in Wolverhampton
    Sep Qtr a John Thomas Harris DAVIES is born in Wolverhampton mother's maiden name DENNIS sadly he dies in the same qtr
    25/07/1910 John DAVIES transfers to Section D of Army Reserve and gives his next of kin as Pamila Davies wife and Violet DAVIES daughter
    1911 Cenus John DAVIES is Living with Pamila DAVIES and Violet DAVIES aged 7 they have been married 8 years had two children with one living.

    Now is John DAVIES (Mary) Violet's father and if he is how if he was in S Africa? if he isn't why would he say he is going to live where Pamila was living in 1901

    Can I can leave this for another 14 years. thank you @bayhorse for this nice problem

    Indolent ulcer - refuses to heal. Suppurate - fester. Iodoform - antiseptic.

    Update on this, John and Pamila were married before he transferred to the reserves.

    Still need to answer if Mary Violet / Violet Mary is John's daughter
