Checking out my Pettit lot I came across this: - Ann Pettyt buried 25 Oct 1688 at Saffron Walden, a note added stated,"Mrs A P buried in ye middle oyll under ye white stone coming down from ye desk w'thin two seats of ye steppe". Presumably oyll is ailse. As far as I can tell Ann is not one of mine but is most likely related by marriage, I do have a Saffron Walden Pettit line.
Have we compared Pettit relatives? I seem to recall we mentioned a family name that we both had but which one is lost in the recesses of my mind. Oh dear! Just done the maths and I hope I have Elizabeth Pettit's marriage date to John Smith wrong, I can't see a 13 year old being married, otherwise it's back to the drawing board.
I am not sure. My SMITHs came from Ashdon/Saffron Walden and my Grandmother's line came from there plus Radwinter as well as Castle Camps & Bartlow (Cambs, but just up the road). There is a link to my tree on my profile - you are welcome to have a rummage - but I think that my PETTITs are later that yours that you have mentioned.
I don't know what state my brain was in when I married off that Elizabeth Pettit to John Smith, the marriage in 1692 at Saffron Walden was correct as was Elizabeth's baptism in 1679 at Saffron Walden, checked it again in both Ancestry and FreeReg and there is no hint of her being born several years before being baptised. I've compiled a list of baptisms for Elizabeth Pettits that I'm going to try a process of elimination with, two promising baptisms at Saffron Walden have already fizzled out, they died in infancy, I have a horrible feeling it's going too be a nightmare.
