I don't want to post personal details because this is not my family and it's fairly recent.

I'm looking into a family whose father was born 1870's
In 1911 in London, he was described as army pensioner, caretaker
He seems to disappear in 1891 and 1901, acquires a "wife" and has children, but I can't find anything about them before 1911

Where would I be able to find any records for a time in the army during this time? The kids in 1911 are supposed to have been born in London a few years previously, but their births can't be found either

The vague answer would be to check TNA and Fold3. Both hold British military records from that general time frame.

Thank you, I don't know anything about his career. I know his birth down to which quarter, and his 'wife's' first names , although she doesn't seem to exist at any time apart from 1911. So I'm wondering where the intelligent place to look for this time frame would be
