Today is the feast day of St Hubert. He didn’t start out as a saint, but as an 8th century French nobleman with a penchant for hunting stags. He loved this pastime so much that he ended up neglecting his spiritual duties. But! One stag that he was chasing, suddenly stopped and confronted him whilst holding up a crucifix and threatening him with eternal damnation.
(So, don’t mess with talking stags carrying crucifixes.

This was enough for Hubert – he became a monk and even ended up as the Bishop of Liège.
Whilst Hubert is now the Patron Saint of Huntsmen, I think that it would be more fitting for him to be the Patron Saint of the League Against Cruel Sports...
