I am new to this, and hope I am doing this right. My ancestors, John Blake and Jane had three children in North Molton, Devon, (1767 to 1772) but no marriage date has been found for them. I am thinking they may have married in Somerset between 1745 to 1767, and had children there, before moving to North Molton. The records I can find for Exford almost rule that area out, though I do have a record that John Jr (born 1772) had a removal order to Exford for his wife and two young children in 1800. The records for Withypool and Winsford that I have found are very incomplete, with many years missing during this time period. They could have been married in any parish in Somerset. I did find a Blake name from Minehead as well. There are no clues or family traditions where they would have married at. We only know that John Blake, and his wife Jane, had three children in North Molton, 1767, 1770 and 1772. Thanks for any help or hints on this.

Hello Blake - welcome to Top Dog C|:-)

I have just moved this over to the Somerset forum. If we find that it should be elsewhere, we can move it again. Meanwhile, could you pop into your profile and complete your location box? That way, we will know (roughly) where you are. ;)

I am sure that later on, as more members log in to the forum, they will be delighted to try to help you with your query. :)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If you haven't already done so you could try Dr Campbell's Index at the Somerset Heritage Centre. Here are details of parishes and dates covered:

Going back to Devon, have you tried requesting a look-up in the Devon Family History Society's marriage index, which goes back to 1754?

WE do not have Jane's maiden name, which adds to the challenge!

I have been looking all over Devon for their marriage for years now, with no luck. If their last child was born in 1772, with my luck, they would have been married just before 1754, of which I know of no indexes for. I am afraid my search is like finding a needle in a haystack, searching each parish records from 1742 on. Struck out on Devon Family History society marriage index. I was told there were many parishes that are not on the IGI, so now I am trying to find those parishes, so I can search their records as well.
