related to my Wilson's of Shottesham (twice!)

I am trying to find out what happened to Clara Brighton born 20 Jun 1851, bapt. 22 Dec 1853, daughter of Charles Brighton and Susan Wilson.

I have her with family in Saxlingham in 1861, thereafter nothing :headbang:

    1861 reference is: RG9: 1225: 100: 11

A Clara Ellen Brighton, father Charles, labourer, married John Charles Price, a policeman, at St Paul’s, Hammersmith, on the 16th January 1870 (Ancestry London Marriages).

    What do you think?

I saw that as well but could not find them in the 1871 census to follow up.:(

I wonder if she died early on in the marriage....

Well, she wouldn't be the first to adopt a middle name at marriage, defiinitely possible

I especially like the policeman bit, I have at least three members of the extended family becoming Metropolitan Police Constables

Not that it makes a lot of difference but John Charles was a Baker - his father was the policeman!

Daughter Alice Louisa Price (mmn Brighton) was registered June qtr 1871
Wandsworth 1d 588 - which might help to find them in 1871

After Charles Brighton died Susan (nee Wilson) married a William Moore; their eldest was Walter, b 13 Mar 1864 in Saxlingham Nethergate, he too became a policeman in London but not until 1886 ...

I have a tentative 1881 census for him in Norwich as a Boot Laster, this may be right, i have no idea of his occupation before he joined The Met, but it says his birthplace is Norwich (not unheard of for Saxlingham born folks to state Norwich, but normally only when out of Norfolk) reference for this is RG11: 1941: 12: 17

I have noticed a shoemaker Walter Moore born c 1863/4 from Norwich in Norwich on later censuses, he might not be this Walter as i think there's one in 1881 Norwich with parents. But it's making me even more doubtful that this census is my Walter

Can anyone convince me this is my Walter? or find an alternative 1881? I'm just going around and around

I also only found the one you Mention- a boot laster- which carried on into later censuses. I wonder if he went o'seas fora time before marriage & police years? One such left for Montreal in 1891-24 May on board the Polynesian, age 27
