    Hello,

This is the only burial eluding me, barring two still held at a church (have seen the headstone). Ellen Boulton died in Carlton near Rothwell on the 19th of February 1936. Her husband Joseph was buried in Lofthouse in 1904, having died in Rothwell Haigh. Could anyone please take a look to see if they can find her?

    I’d appreciate any help!

    Adam

Have you considered that she may have been cremated? The closest place would be Cottingley Hall crematorium, less than 10 miles away.

Perhaps a funeral notice in a local newspaper might give a clue.

Cottingley Hall Crematorium didn't open until 1938, so she won't be there.

Whereabouts in Lofthouse was her husband buried? It's possible that she was buried with him but the later records aren't online.

I've run her name through the database at Yorkshire Indexers and not come up with anything, but that again might be a coverage issue. Jan's suggestion of a funeral notice might be the way to go.

I found a death registration for her [i think] for Wakefield. I can't seem to find what cemeteries are there. She isn't at Lofthouse. Mind you I can't find Joseph there either. Could she have been with family elsewhere when she died? :headbang::)

Sorry for the late reply; I wasn’t notified by email for some reason.

I’m really not all that familiar with the rest of her family. The person who registered her death was her granddaughter, an A.E. Sims of Leeds. I’ve emailed the Rothwell area churches, but not heard back yet :(

This shows that deposited burials go up to 1934. So would the church still hold Ellen’s records, if she was buried in Rothwell?

I'm not sure if there's an indexing issue, but I've just had a browse in the Lofthouse burial register, which is at Ancestry.

It has the burial of Ellen Boulton aged 87 on 20 Feb 1936, with the address given as 76A Stone Row, Rothwell Haigh.

Was Joseph's burial in 1908, not 1904 as you said? (I thought I'd look for him while I was there.)

Brilliant! That loose end tied up at last. Thanks. And yes, I have it down as the 26th of February 1908.

Couldn’t find Joseph’s death certificate on my Google Drive, so I’ve just redownloaded it from GRO. He lived at Stone Row too, when he died.
