I’ve been reading an old book that could interest anyone researching family from Tavistock Devon as Parish Registers and such seem to be somewhat lacking.

Calendar of the Tavistock Parish Records by R. N. Worth. 1887.

It has the Churchwardens accounts, from 1385, with a lot of parishioners listed as regards burial payments, death anniversaries, etc. Also land and rent deeds and associated documents.

No index I’m afraid. (Address below)

    Hugh.

    At the Internet Archives.

Yes, most of the docs I need went up in smoke at Exeter, it's taking me years just to put together three generations from the 1600's.

I stumbled across this collection of photos of tombstones and churches in Devon and thought AnnB and others might be interested, assuming they had not seen it. It was on a site I belong to for Early Graveyards, which I love walking through.

Hope someone enjoys this.....I did. I have several ancestors from Devon and hoped to see a name, but no luck. (Lidstone, Rendle and Tuplin). They all came out to PEI in Canada. Sometimes it says they were from Tawstock....others say Tavistock. Are they the same....with bad transcription?? Others were Buckfastleigh and Chittlehampton.

Thanks very much Brentor Boy!! This area was researched in person and at the FHC by my father many years ago, and I noticed on the LDS site that other people used both spellings. I can only assume it was badly written on some official records and everyone took it as gospel. So, good to know.....I think Tavistock is the right one, but must check all the entries.
