I was thinking the same AM. I checked out your find, just in case, but it's not them. Thanks anyway. George is with his parents in the 1871 census and then disappears until the 1891 census where he is with Annie and some children.

I did have a bit of a look but didn't get anywhere. Anyway, you say:
Does this mean that the one MollyMay found in the workhouse might not be the right one?

That marriage was in Chicago, the year shown (1886) and their ages are 22. They do not show the original transcript just what was transcribed.
I did wonder if it was a possibility as I have found distant relatives that went to the states and married and then went back to England and also a great uncle who came to Canada, his future bride came with him, they married in Vancouver and then WWI started and they returned to England for him to serve and never came back to Canada.

After I had thought some more about that I realised that was the case, I couldn't see any reason why the Illinois Marriage Index would have an English marriage on it.

It does look like your couple went to America married there then came back to England for some reason and stayed, I wonder why.

Thanks for trying. I wondered that about Annie in the workhouse. But, I can only find one George William Rixson, 2nd cousin of my George and he was born 1884 and I have his marriage. I'm wondering that as Annie was sick when she was admitted to the workhouse if someone else gave the husband's information. George died in 1902.

I don't think that either of the Cook County marriages are my couple. The age is right out for George in the 1886 one and Annie's initial is M and surname Clark. But thank you anyway.:)

I don't think either marriage is them Derek. The age is right out for George in the 1886 one and Annie's initial is M and surname Clark. But thank you anyway.:)

Whatever was I thinking of, I completely overlooked the fact that the bride's maiden surname was Clark. :headbang: :)

How about this with a mis-spelt Rixson- sounded out by a registry clerk who didn't know many surnames??

    Marriages Jun 1881

CLARK Mary Ann Bethnal Green 1c 642
RICHARDS George Bethnal Green 1c 642

Thanks for trying. I've found the original parish register and it's not them. Worth a look though.:)
