Cause of death?

John BYRNE died on 21st March 1916, his death being registered in the Tullamore Registration district, County Offaly, Ireland.

I would be grateful if anyone is able to read the first word on the cause of death - I think that the second word is exhaustion.

Many thanks. :)

It doesn't look like exhaustion but the first 2 letters look like en.
The top certificate says the same James Buckley
I put Enhaustion in a search engine and it does exist.

The other word looks like maninpler!
I have been trying to see if I can match the letters with the others that are there.
The first word is exhaustion. I magnified it to 300 percent!
What a scribbler.
Added:
The 2nd word is exhaustion.

I agree - Meningitis and Exhaustion.

If you look at the full page (see link in DB's initial post) there's another Exhaustion at the top of the page. There's also another 'x' in Sixth in the second entry. I think it's just a rather rushed style of writing.
