    Hello,

Elizabeth was born in Devizes in 1843, the daughter of James (a coach painter) and Sarah. I haven’t found a christening on FamilySearch or FindMyPast.

    I’d appreciate any help!

No baptism found for that Elizabeth, but there is one for an Elizabeth Eden born in Devizes in 1841,

    Elizabeth Eden
    Birth Date: 18 Sep 1841
    Baptism Date: 26 Jan 1851
Baptism Place: Devizes, St Mary the Virgin, Wiltshire, England
Parents: Thomas and Mary Ann (GRO indexes have her maiden name as MULCOCK)
This couple seem to have married in Bedminster Somerset, Mar 1838

(sorry had a senior moment and will try again)

Elizabeth born 1841 has a mmn of MARTIN, there is also a sister born 1841 called Mary Jane

Oh well, I can't seem to edit my previous comment again.

I mention the first couple as Thomas may be related to the father of Elizabeth 1843.

There is an 1832 marriage in Rowde, Wiltshire
James EDEN and Sarah MARTIN 32 July

Anyway, maybe they are the parents of Elizabeth 1843

Rowde is only 2 or 3 miles from Devizes ...

I have just stumbled across this thread, searching for an Eliza Eden, born 1837, who was lodging with Mary Phipp and her son John in Devizes in 1851. I have found no connection to the Eden's mentioned above so far, but I do have both 1841 and 1843 Elizabeth Eden's in my tree. Elizabeth, B 1841 was Baptised with her siblings Sarah Jane and Thomas in 1851, also with who I believe was her cousin, Anna Maria Phipp, daughter of Benjamin Phipp and wife Martha. Elizabeth went on to have a relationship with the Devizes photographer, Henry Mower, who married her sister, Sarah Jane, in Bristol, in 1875. Though I have never found a marriage between Henry and Elizabeth, Elizabeth is referred to as Elizabeth Eden Mower, widow of Henry Mower, on her death certificate in 1907. As far as I can tell, she had 5 children, 2 of whom were registered with Henry's surname, Mower.

I believe that James and Thomas were brothers, sons of James Eden and Sarah Maslen.

Though I have spent quite some time trying to sort out the relationships between the Phipp, Eden and Mulcock families, it is complex and whenever I think that I have reached a definitive conclusion, another fact pops out to disrupt my puzzle!!! The relationship between Henry Mower and the two sisters is documented however, so I am fairly certain that the three did have an unconventional relationship :)

Elizabeth Eden was a bit of a rabbit hole for me, as not closely related, but once I started uncovering the story (and realising the connection with my home town of Bristol), I just had to keep going! More than happy to share more of my discoveries if this is of interest.
