Son of Daniel Dowe and Susanna Bartram is making me want to scream ... I tried to compare my findings with my uncle's tree, only to find he doesn't exist so far as my uncle is concerned

Birth registered Dec 1869, born in Weston, Suffolk
    1871 census in Weston
1881 census in Caistor St Edmund, Norfolk
1891 census in Little Cressingham, Norfolk (mill manager)
Dec 1897 in Islington, London he gains a middle name of Rowland and marries Katie Edith Page
    1901 Beccles, Suffolk (house painter)
1911 Flordon, Norfolk (licensed victualler @ Railway Tavern)
6 Nov 1933 dies in Flordon, death registered as Daniel H (I think for Henry) Dowe, probate under Daniel Dowe
burial in Flordon, gravestone suggests he was born c 1874 o_O

Now for Katie, b1877 bap 1888, Hempnall, Norfolk, daughter of George and Mary
    1881 and 1891 Hempnall
1901 and 1911 with Daniel, as above

Now following Daniel's death I believe she married Benjamin Baxter, Dec 1934 Depwade district.
I failed to find her in 1939. Then thought i'd try Benjamin, well i found a Benjamin Baxter in Erpingham, Norfolk, a publican, with a wife Kate E, only she's claiming to be born in 1888.

Is she just lying? Or am i making a mistake?

There is a Katie Baxter, death in Poole in 1952. Her age is 74 and if your Katie then that would be birth of around 1877-78.
Also have no clue if Poole is anywhere near Norfolk but she could have moved in later life.
Perhaps new hubby had no idea of her age when he married her so she used her baptism certificate ;)

There is a death in North Walsham (Kate E Baxter), which might be a better fit assuming she didn't move from Erpingham, she has only lost 7 years off her age

Could this be your Benjamin BAXTER on the National Probate Calendar given that he was shown as a Publican in the 1939 Register: Died on 17 June 1958 of the Vernon Arms, Southrepps - not too far from Erpingham - probate granted on 28 July 1958 to Nora CATCHPOLE married woman. This might suggest that wife Katie E had already died.

The Katie E BAXTER whose death is registered in Poole is probably Katie Ellen BAXTER, widow, of Poole Road Bournmouth who died on 22 October 1952 - she too appears on the National Probate Calendar, so I think the death registration in North Walsham is definitely more likely as it is roughly in the correct area.

As the Kate E Baxter of North Waltham was 63 when she died that would give her a birth year of 1885 and a marriage to Daniel in 1897. Something not quite adding up. :(

I shall go with the North Walsham death, and assume she fudged her age so often that her husband just gave his best guess

I think she just couldn't ever be honest about her age, she was already losing years in 1911 ...
