    Dear Richard,

Thank you so much for your reply. I will certainly contact you when I have time which I am hoping will not be too long. I have unearthed a few boxes of bottles but they are not exciting, milk bottles and medicine bottles, but I will get them to you soon if you really do not mind!.

To anyone who has kindly replied to me about our farm, I just wanted to let you know that I have found out that it was around in 1308 and probably earlier and the pile of stones that I was going to start unearthing is apparently the original house. I am now terrified to touch it as it is so old and I don't want to damage it! At the moment it is covered in bluebells but once they have died down I will start a little excavation, probably with a teaspoon so I cannot damage anything so it could take a while but I will keep you all up to date, especially if there is something interesting, the only problem being that I might not recognise it as such!

I'm gritting my teeth with envy here.....but, if you are really serious about doing any excavation, why not contact the Devon Archaeological Society for advice

Just seen in the latest Parish Chest newsletter that some Dartmoor Press items are now available there - see the listing at

I don't think the Walkhampton book mentioned above is there at present, but it may be worth asking whether it might be in future.
