Can anyone explain to the following:-

Twin girls born to John and Martha Hatfield and their corresponding deaths.

FreeBMD

Births Jun 1873
HATFIELD, Mary - Knighton - 11b - 167
HATFIELD, Rose Ellen - Knighton - 11b - 167

Deaths Jun 1873
Hatfield, Mary - 0 - Knighton - 11b - 121
Hatfield, Rose Ellen - 0 - Knighton - 11b - 121

The births of both girls are on the GRO.gov site but only Rose Ellen's comes up when I search for the death.

The death cert for Rose Ellen says premature birth age 1 day.

In the local burial register there is only a burial for Rose Ellen.

OK, I could understand if Mary was a still born twin of Rose Ellen that her death not being registered but if her birth was registered then she must have been born alive so why not register her death?

OK (again ) maybe the GRO.gov site may not be complete and is only showing on FreeBMD but why no burial.

have you tried the newspapers in Knighton for that time see if any mention maybe

Nothing in the papers.
Might they have been buried together but only one name listed by person recording Burial? I have seen Baptisms so listed when two are on one page.
You could be right, it would also lessen the charge for one burial instead of paying for 2.
