Detention Home

I have just been looking at a rellie in the US 1940 census and it says she is
living in a Detention Home????
anyone know what this is?
name is Doris H Cornish she is a spinster age 66 lives with her sister Mabel
it is in Languna Street Santa Barbara Calafornia.
They had been in US since c1922 they didnt apply for citizenship, so I wondered if that had anything to do with it .....has me flummoxed!!!!!

Can you give us the reference, please? Usually Detention Homes were/are for young offenders. Could she have been an employee there?

Well Sue here is one embarassed Sandie............in going back to find a ref I actually
read down the census and before my rellies come up it says
"here ends the detention home and starts Laguna street"
so moral of this story is read everything properly!!
