Died of what?

I've finally worked out, after several years of searching, who one of the WW1 soldiers buried in our local cemetery was. All I had was A. Davies and a death date. Anyway I digress.

Can someone tell me what he died of, I know it was something of the lung.

Here are 3 images captured from his record.

Just found a mistake on the CWGC for this man.

A Davies (Arthur Davies)

PRIVATE
A DAVIES
Service Number: 4926
Regiment & Unit/Ship - Herefordshire Regiment

Date of Death - Died 02 May 1919

Buried or commemorated at - KNIGHTON CEMETERY - I. 43.

Secondary Unit, Regiment - transf. to (545179) Labour Corps this should be 545719

Country of Service - United Kingdom

Luckily his headstone only gives the 4926 number.

No, it seems that the error derives from the original record. This can't be changed. Not sure if changing the viewable record would be much help.

He also had another army number, 315200, which isn't mentioned.

Besides, I'm not sure how you go about contacting them.

I could provide proof by telling them to look at his army records but I feel I would be wasting their time for such a small matter.

Have done this once before, they had the wrong date of death on one mans stone. To be fair to them they replaced the stone. Proof of the correct date of death was from his death certificate.

Did you know?

If you are looking through a cemetery and come across a CWGC headstone but are unable to find a corresponding record on the CWGC website, here is the reason.

All CWGC who are qualified for war grave status have headstones that have a top that looks like this:-

For stones which have this type of top:-

The official explanation from CWGC - These casualties died during the war years and were buried in the war graves plot, but none were still in active service at the time. Consequently, they do not qualify for war grave status.
