New 4 part series starts at 9pm on BBC2 tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd March.

Stacey Dooley helps people answer life-changing questions by examining their DNA. In the first episode, she comes to the aid of Richard, who wants to learn if a man claiming to be his biological father is the genuine article, and Charlie, who wants to know what her chances are of contracting the same terminal illness as her father

I think in this series we may not only see the good results from DNA testing, but also maybe a few pit-falls.

I have it in my planner :)

as always with TV they made it look so easy to get the answers and glossed over the months of counselling with just a brief mention.

I felt really sorry for the two guys. 'R' (supposed bio father) must have kept track of who he thought was his son & his mother, to have contacted him after both his parents had died. So he spent 50 odd years thinking he had a son when he didn't. Also, wondered why they referred just to the grandmother & not grandparents unless 'J' was from a previous relationship and why if the other brothers had children, they didn't definitively rule them out! Left far more questions.....

I wasnt that enamoured with it they made it sound as though it was easy to understand the DNA but they had a geneticist helping. I felt sorry for the chap who thought he had found a brother and must say I thought they were very alike.
It didnt make me want to try DNA even though I have some unknowns!!

I was OK with her until she kept saying" geneOlogist" instead of "geneAlogist".

I thought there was too much waffling and showing of scenery, and the whole thing was rather drawn-out.

It's amazing how many people smugly correct me if I say 'geneAlogist' with, "It's 'geneOlogist'!" :sceptical:

    9th March synopsis

    Episode 2 of 3

Janine has lived her entire life never knowing the identity or ethnicity of her birth father. Her white and British mum kept her true parentage a secret, which made life difficult while growing up on Braunstone Estate in Leicester with darker skin. Janine finally wants to discover the origins of her DNA so she can put the mystery to rest and give her children some answers.

Margaret was adopted in Southport when she was only six months old. Until now, she never felt brave enough to search for information about her ancestry, in particular what happened to her birth mother. She’s wondering if DNA can finally reveal the truth, and she’s shocked by the results.

31-year-old Duri was devastated when her mother died of ovarian cancer eight years ago. But even worse was the discovery that the disease might be in her DNA, and that she could carry a potentially fatal genetic mutation. Hoping to someday be a mum, Duri wants to test her DNA to see if she is likely to contract the fatal disease.
