    I've found this Freedom of the City papers, which are for my 4 x Great Grandfather. It has been signed but there's quite a bit that has not been completed. Do you think it may mean that it never went through?

    Maybe.
    But it does say "Copy"
    And they didn't have Carbon Paper in the 1800s (did they?)

    (I'm sure I've got a legal doc from the 1980's somewhere that didn't have all the details filled in, but was given to us as the receipt.)

    Thank you. The word Copy has 1771 after it, which I took to be referring to the father's freedom, which was in 1771. Sorry probably should have mentioned it.
