So I've gone through all my previous postings and can't see any reference to this line so thought I'd give it a go. Still working on other lines.

Anne Drabble married Michael Hilton in Manchester England, unsure of date. Anne was born 1773? in Derbyshire? (this is all written in pencil so no idea how accurate it is).

Looking to confirm these dates and places and see if I can go back further for Anne.

    Thank you wonderful people.

30th December 1788 (Source: Boyds Marriage index via FMP)

    However...

The Lancs OPC has the following information:

Marriage: 30th November 1788 Collegiate, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Michael Hillton - Weaver of this Parish & Town Of Manchester
Ann Drabble - (X), Spinster, Manchester. Aforesaid
    Witness: John Henderson; Henry Aspinall
Banns Read: 9th November, 16th November and 23rd November 1788
Married by Banns by: Humphrey Owen
    Notes: [Groom signed Hilton]
    Register: Marriages 1788, Page 10, Entry 878
    Source: LDS Film 2356674

So it looks like Michael signed his name and Ann signed with an X. The dates of the Banns also leads me to believe that November as the marriage date is more likely than December.

Thank you @Daft Bat, much appreciated. I guess looking at the OPC will potentially help me find birthdate for Anne?

    Not necessarily.

You are more likely to find just a baptism date, although a Parish Clerk might have been helpful and put a birth date in the margin of the Parish Register, but that is not usual.

Also, if Anne was born in Derbyshire, her baptism will not be on the Lancs OPC site.

What is your source for her having been born in Derbyshire?

My mother, who gave me the information in pencil, which as I said means probably not correct. So her not being born where I said wouldn't surprise me at this stage :)

There is a baptism for an Ann Drabble, daughter of James and Isabel, on 28th March 1773 in Hope, Derbyshire. The family home was in the hamlet of Great Hucklow, Derbyshire.

    However....

There is nothing to indicate that this is the same Ann Drabble who wed Michael Hilton.

    Just found another one:

26th June 1771 at Baslow, Derbyshire (although the handwriting looks more like Barlow) to father Thomas. No mother mentioned.

There is a Michael Hilton in the 1841 census at John Street, Manchester, aged 70 (giving a birth year of 1766-1771 as ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years) who might be your chap. His occupation was Cotton Weaver (same as marriage occupation) and he has stated yes to having been born in the county. However, there is no sign of Ann.

Bless him, he is still going in 1851 and still at John Street - number 8.

He is aged 83 (born about 1768), a widower and a hand loom weaver. There are a couple of daughters and their husbands living with him - Martha born about 1802 and Ann born about 1809,

Michael and Anne had a son called James, potentially baptised 1792 or born 1796. :headbang:

Lancs OPC also has the following baptisms for children of Michael and Ann, both at the Collegiate, Manchester:

    Robert - 9th May 1790
Isabella - 20th October 1793 (this lends credence to the Ann baptised in 1773 to parents James & Isabel in post #6 above)

Then there are these baptisms, which took place at the Gravel Lane Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Salford, although the abode reads Manchester:

    Michael - 25th December 1800 (born 12th December)
    Ann - 26th November 1801 (born 13th January 1796)
    Isabella - 2nd September 1804 (born 6th August)
    John - 28th December 1805 (born 16th December)

It is perfectly feasible that Michael and Ann converted to Wesleyan - my own great grandparents converted to Baptists and so some of their children were baptised in the Parish Church and others in the Baptist Chapel.

Michael died in 1854 aged 86 and his death was registered in Manchester RD in the September quarter, volume 8D, page 109.

Only a possible - baptism of Michael Hilton 18/10/1767 son of Robert and Betty at Standish, abode of Blackrod Lancashire.
Standish is 19 miles from Manchester, but feasible he moved into the town to get work as a weaver.
He named his first son Robert, a typical naming pattern.

That looks like him - the birthplace of Blackrod is on the 1851 census. :)

Thank you @MollyMay appreciate it. Betty might fit in with my pencil notes, I have an Elizabeth Rowlingson as Michaels' mother.
