Edwin Frank Cox born 22 May 1850 Northamptonshire. Record set England & Wales births 1837 - 2006 Volume 15 Page 329 Is there anybody that can help me to get a copy of the birth record from the Archive office in England? I want to start my genealogy search in England. I completed my records (up to date) here in South Africa.
COX, EDWIN FRANK Mothers maiden name: DAWES GRO Reference: 1850 J Quarter in NORTHAMPTON UNION Volume 15 Page 329 You can order a birth certificate from here (copy the link into your address bar) Code: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp The cost of the certificate is £9.25
Thank you for your reply, How can I go about the payment ? Is it only Visa payments ? Maybe any other way of payment ?
I'm not sure, I've only ever paid by visa (debit card) Just reading their blurb and it looks like that is the only way to pay. (it is secure so no need to worry)
It looks like Visa is ony payment - but there is a contact section, where there is a fascility to contact them and ask questions (and a phone number), which might bring forth an alternative payment option.
I see they have something on your Edwin Frank Cox at the National Archives http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D6587835 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7920493
This marriage may prove relevant to you - Edwin's birth certificate will confirm whether it is correct: 3 September 1841 at Northampton St Sepulchre William COX, full age, bachelor, Shoemaker, Ash Street, father William COX, Draper, & Eliza DAWES, minor, spinster, Ash Street, father William DAWES, Shoemaker - (original parish register entry available to see on Ancestry). 1861 census entry for Portsea, Hampshire (RG9/636, folio 184, page 31) shows Edwin F COX as the son in law of George JUDD, a Cordwainer born Northampton, & his wife Eliza born 1825 Northampton. Edwin has a sister Elizabeth COX born 1846 Northampton and two half siblings George & Lucy JUDD both born Portsea, so it look as as if possible father William COX died between 1851 & 1855. Or perhaps not as she & George JUDD did not marry until 10 April 1860 at Portsea. Have to go now, baby sitting duties call, but will look a little further later. Janet
There is also another birth that may be to the same parents, 2 years previous. COX, WILLIAM LEWINGTON Mothers Maiden Name: DAWES GRO Reference: 1848 D Quarter in NORTHAMPTON UNION Volume 15 Page 274
Interesting Chimp, because I cannot find baptisms for any of the children of William & Eliza COX on Ancestry's Northamptonshire parish registers. I wonder if they were perhaps non-conformists. Janet
Another couple of births:- Elizabeth Ann COX, Mothers Maiden Name: DAWES GRO Reference: 1846 S Quarter in NORTHAMPTON UNION Volume 15 Page 314 Eliza Ann COX, Mothers Maiden Name: DAWES GRO Reference: 1842 M Quarter in NORTHAMPTON UNION Volume 15 Page 311
I don't have a sub to Ancestry but have found this. Don't know if it's the Elizabeth Ann I found the birth for or not. Maybe someone could take a look. Northamptonshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, 1813-1912 Code: http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=NorthamptonshireBaptisms&gss=sfs28_ms_r_db&new=1&rank=1&gsfn=elizabeth%20ann&gsfn_x=NP_NN_NIC&gsln=cox&gsln_x=0&msbdy=1846&MSAV=1&MSV=0&uidh=lvd
Can't line up any of the baptisms in Northampton either a William & Eliza [Daw'e's] only a Thomas & Eliza. I wonder if it's another name for William?
