Sadly, I don't know much about this this couple, but hope that the details I do provide will enable me to get some results without the purchase of Thomas's death certificate. If I must, I will. Elizabeth was baptised 6 October 1771 and married Thomas Lee 3 August 1808 - both events in Bridport, Dorset. She was a spinster [presumably] and aged about 37. I have not found any baptisms for this couple. Whether Thomas had been previously married has not been determined. I suspect that Elizabeth may have predeceased Thomas and that Thomas was not living in Dorset at the time of the 1841 census as I can find neither. In August 1844, Thomas died and was buried in Bridport on 1 September 1844. That's all I have. I know that @mugwortismy cat and I have over the years posted several items about Ackerman's but I don't think that this couple has been addressed.
Could this be the baptism of Thomas? Thomas Lee Birth date: 25th March 1786 Baptism date: 30th March 1786, Bridport, Barrack Street Meeting House (Independent) Father: Thomas, Mother: Mary My reason for thinking it may be is that when Thomas married Elizabeth in 1808 the witnesses were:- Anthony Lee Thomas Lee John Cox John Curme Now Anthony Lee had the same parents and was baptised at the same place Anthony Lee Baptism date: 11th January 1785, Bridport, Barrack Street Meeting House (Independent) Father: Thomas, Mother: Mary Groom: Anthony Lee Bride: Susanna Chard Marriage date: 7th April 1806, Bridport Witnesses: Thomas LEE & John CURME I know that Thomas would be 15 years Elizabeth's junior, but well, Elizabeth at 37 had been on the shelf for a while (I know, sexist, but it happens) What do you think?
I like it, my lad and if she was a tad older than Thomas - there's a tree on Ancestry that indicates she may have made up for lost time - [if you know what I mean]!!
Well if he is your Thomas there are several siblings for him. His parents could be:- Groom: Thomas Lee Bride: Mary Keech Marriage date: 10th October 1781, Bridport Witnesses:- John Knight & Stephen Keech
You can't change history Colin John Curme seems to be a 'one fits all witness' He is on quite a few marriages.
Back to Thomas and my own research. I can ignore the 1844 death as it was for an infant. The correct death therefore seems to be - Bridport, Dorset Apr-Jun q. 1840 vol. 8 page 24. He is transcribed as LEY. This fits to a burial in Bridport of a 54 year old Thomas Lee on 9 June 1840.
So far of the children attached to Thomas and Elizabeth in those trees, I have found baptisms for 2 in Bridport - 1 was in 1822 and the other 1827. These were either very late baptisms or else not mine as Elizabeth would have been over the age of 60 when the 1st baptism took place. My feeling is that they had no children. While I think this is the correct death for Thomas I would like to find Elizabeth's.
