Elizabeth Dickins

Looking at the dob for the Susan HARWOOD nee ALDRIDGE above, she could be the daughter of George & Susan who was baptised at Stevenage in 1805, so not your Susan. Yes, she is, as there is a burial at Stevenage St Nicholas on 29 October 1811 for a Susan ALDRIDGE, aged 3, who is much more likely to be the daughter of Smith & Elizabeth. Also a burial at Stevenage on 27 February 1807 for a Rebecca ALDRIDGE, aged 3 months, who again is a likely candidate for the daughter of Smith & Elizabeth. Burial on the Herts Burial Index of an Elizabeth ALDRIDGE at Stevenage on 10 June 1827, aged 27 - Edward's first wife??

Not many of the children of Smith & Elizabeth survived to a good age, did they. I cannot find any burial records in Hertfordshire for James & Sarah FAVELL - so far. Nor can I find Mary Ann, baptised 24 May 1801 daughter of Smith & Elizabeth at the moment either. Daughter Phoebe, if she is the wife of William INGLE, also seems to have disappeared. Having said that, there is a Phoebe INGLE in the 1841 census of Peckham, Camberwell, Surrey (HO107/1051/8, folio 14, page 21) who is described as aged 35, a Shopkeeper not born in the county living with presumably daughters Jemima & Lydia both born in the county. Lydia is buried at Camberwell on 7 February 1849, aged 18 & there is a marriage record for a Jemima INGLE at St Leonard Shoreditch on 22 January 1846, father shown as William INGLE, Shoemaker. Bingo! Marriage at St Leonard Shoreditch on 6 June 1849 between William KEAN, full age, bachelor, Cordwainer, Ivy Lane, father William KEAN, Framework Knitter & Phoebe INGLE, full age, widow, Ivy Lane, father Smith ALDRIDGE, Servant. Witnesses: John BARNETT & Sarah FAVELL?? This marriage record is on Ancestry and my eyes may be seeing what I want them to, but the witness could be Sarah FAVELL. Have a look and see what you think. Also have a look at the 1861 census of Bethnal Green (RG9/251, folio 80, page 36) where a James FAVEL, aged 60, Builder, born Bedfordshire, is living at 5 Queen Street with wife Sarah FAVEL, aged 60, born Hertfordshire. Could this couple be our missing James & Sarah??

Hope this has been some help, anyway, and perhaps provided you with some information you do not already possess.

Janet

Just looked at the first sentence of your post and realised you may already have the information about Phoebe KEAN - should read things more carefully, shouldn't I!! However, hopefully the info re the FAVEL's is new to you.

Janet

And could this be your Sarah FAVELL in the 1871 census of Streatham, Surrey (RG10/718, folio 68, page 15) living at Holly Grove:

Sarah FABLE Head W 70 Herts Stevenage

Death registration of a Sarah FAVELL in the June qtr 1872 at Wandsworth reg district, aged 71.

Thank you Janet for all that sleuthing. I would never have found all those Favell things, the transcriptions were all mangled on Ancestry

I think you are right, it is Sarah, but her writing is so bad I never realised what it said. That's sorted out a lot of the family, thanks again
