I am trying to tidy up some loose ends with my mother's cousin, known as Hettie (1909 -1998) I have two marriages for her (though another cousin thought there was a third) to Charles William Wardale ( m 1930divorced 1949) and George L Clark (m1950) I have two Wardale daughters, Margaret, b 1931/2 who is sorted and Patricia, b about 1934,who seems to have married Douglas Charles Miles but I do not have date or her death. (A tree at Ancestry has her b 1946 but I cannot confirm this) There was another daughter Dorothy who married a Mr Townsend but I do not know who her father was. All events seem to have taken place in Trail or Vancouver, British Columbia.
Forgot to add that Ancestry has 'hint' for Patricia to the Canadian newspapers Obit and Marriage collections but I cannot access as I do not have world sub.
Douglas Charles MILES, father S E MILES, married Patricia Lili-Anne WARDALE on either 27 February 1956 or 20 July 1956 - both dates shown as separate entries in Ancestry's Canadian Newspapers Marriage Index. 1972/1974 Canada Electors Lists show a Douglas & Patricia MILES living at Colwood Drive, Vancouver, he being shown as a Stockbroker. Have to go out now, I'm afraid, but will have a look for any more records for this couple later. Janet

Hi, The hint for Pat Miles is the obituary for her father Charles in the Province newspaper May 26, 1966, page 21 You can see a jumbled snippet here, scroll down, click on OCR on the left, thenscroll down, last names are capitalized or use the control and F key. If anyone is interested there is a picture of Hettie age about 6 in my album "some of my family" in the original she is standing next to my mother.
You're welcome. Just being a little cautious as I'm not sure who is still living. Another snippet an obit for Margaret Van deVelde in the Chilliwack Progress newspaper June 1, 1994, page 21. It says she was born Aug. 30, 1931 Rossland, BC, survived by husband L. son D., mother Esther and 3 sisters. The two already mentioned and Mrs. I. (it's a flower) Balcombe. Predeceased by one son Allen in 1992. Code: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/81434831/ DB
According to my mother's cousin, Margaret's son Allen died in an accident while he was repairing a boat, she heard about it while watching TV. The shock led to her subsequent demise.
Hi, Just so tragic. The report of Allen's death is in the Chilliwack Progress, June 3, 1992 page 1 with photo. For some reason it's free to view. Code: https://theprogress.newspapers.com/image/80531239/ You can see Margaret's obit as well, you may want to grab it before it becomes unfree to view. Code: https://theprogress.newspapers.com/image/81434831/?terms=van%20develde&match=1 This is the main search page for the Chillwack Progress if you want to peruse it. Hi, Sadly, Margaret's husband Leonard Van deVelde died 4 months after her in Sept. 1994, he was killed in a tractor accident, it rolled on a hill. I am not having much luck tracing possible deaths of Douglas C & Patricia. The last likely record I can find for Douglas C is one in the North Vancouver Telephone & Address Directory of 1995/96 - available to view on Ancestry. Janet
Found an Obituary for Dorothy TOWNSEND, father Charles William WARDALE, in Ancestry's Canadian Newspapers section but unfortunately my Ancestry subscription does not cover looking at the actual image. However, the source citation is shown as "The Province" dated 26 May 1966. I cannot find a marriage for Dorothy but have found some Canadian Voters List records for a Dorothy TOWNSEND living with a William TOWNSEND, who is a Salesman, in South Vancouver from 1957-1965 when she disappears from the Voters Lists. Mind you so does William as far as I can tell, but the other Dorothy TOWNSENDs that I have found who appear in the Vancouver Voters Lists do seem to still be there after 1966. Not conclusive, but perhaps worth further investigation. Janet
That is a bit odd! She was still alive in the 90s and her husband was Ross according to the above obit for her sister .
That must have been the obit for Charles William Wardale who died in 1966, and just mentioned his daughter
Ah, that explains it! I did think she would have been quite young but not being able to see the actual Obituary meant that I couldn't be sure it was actually her Obituary. Ancestry & FMP do seem to transcribe some information in strange ways in that they can attribute certain events to people other than those who are directly concerned. Sorry about that piece of misinformation. Janet
Could he have been the John R TOWNSEND who is living at Surrey-White Rock, B.C. in the 1972 Canada Voters List record. He is shown as a member of the R.C.M.P. living with wife Dorothy who is shown as a Teacher. 1965 Voters List shows him as John Ross TOWNSEND, R.C.M.P. living with wife Dorothy at Okanagan Boundary, B.C. Canadian Phone & Address Directories show John R (or Ross) TOWNSEND living at Surrey between 1995 and 2002. Janet
