Mine are due round about then too.

I dunno - online ordering (no postage required), for the price of a small chocolate bar and estimated delivery inside a calendar month. It can't be bad.

When I think back to how long I had to wait for anything back in the day before the internet and on-line ordering (let alone what was actually available and where on earth you could get hold of a copy), I have to give myself a slap on the wrist for being impatient

I used to live close enough to London that a day trip could be achieved. Train then tube to Holborn, trundle up the road to First Avenue House, get comfy with the ledgers, put in my request and then pootle across the road to the pub for lunch. An hour or so later, they would be ready to collect and make great reading for the journey home. :)

When I first started researching my Lancashire family, to find them in a census I either had to make a 250 mile round trip to Lancashire in the car or get a very early train to London and queue for a seat in the basement at Chancery Lane. Once at the destination I had to order microfilms and trawl through the images in the hope that I was looking in the right place. Amazingly, I found them! I don't begrudge my annual subscriptions to FMP and Ancestry because I save so very much time and money compared to those days. The old days were more fun though, if only because the sense of achievement when you finally got a printout of the right document was immense!

I can remember the trips to First Avenue House as well......maybe we were standing right next to each other :reading: Bob and I used to work in Holborn, so lunch time jaunts to First Avenue House and St Catherine's were easy - and we knew all the pubs :D

I'm glad I only ever got there early enough not to have to queue :D I can well remember the speed at which the next in the queue left their seat when I left......

Just realised that I've duplicated an order for one I originally got in 2012. At least I've only paid the reduced rate for it this time. :sceptical:

It was difficult for me to get there early enough to avoid queuing, given the 3-4 hour journey to King's Cross. At some point I might have been that person who jumped up and sped past you as you left! :D

In case it helps anyone else to guess when their wills will be available, my two from the 1980s arrived today. I'm still waiting for the older one.

I sent a query 2 days ago and just received this reply We are experiencing very high demand for copies of wills, which means it is taking us significantly longer than usual to provide copies requested via gov.uk. We are sorry for the inconvenience and the frustration that this delay is causing. Please be assured that we have your request and understand how important this is to you.

    Thanks for the update @looby

I know they have my order as they took the money out of my account almost immediately.

I'll go back to twiddling my thumbs

As before, I'm very happy to be able to order online and don't really mind the wait.

However, it seems they didn't appreciate that the £10 cost was deterring many applications and, therefore, didn't anticipate the upsurge in demand that the lower price would cause. I am sure I was not alone in having wills in my 'basket' that I suddenly realised I could afford to buy immediately.

I hope they don't feel they have to increase the price again to manage the demand though ... I'm sure it will settle down once the initial rush is over?

I agree, I don’t mind the wait at the price it is now, it’s a small price to pay. Excuse the pun

I have never ordered one of these Wills, but there are a number
that I could. I think I had better order them before they stick the
    price up again!:)
