When you click on New posts and there are some you have not read look to the right of the screen. You will see a link to Recent posts there. Click on it and you see the posts you have not yet read plus the older posts.
Alternatively, if you have read all the New posts for a day then click on New Posts it pops a message that there are no new posts and provides a link to Recent posts.
