    Thank you Blackmogs.
    I spoke to my sister earlier today. She has packed up all her precious things including my Mums Eucharist Lilly, her sewing machine, the family bible and a very precious studio photo of her with our father, his father and her great grandfather. You can’t take everything so has photographed as much has she can for insurance purposes. Much of the family history is on a computer thingy :confused: the rest is in binders.
    Tomorrow is going to be a catastrophic day where she lives and much of everywhere else on the NSW south coast and further inland around Canberra.
    When we decided to get out of Sydney we had a thought of moving to one of the beach towns down that way, so happy it was only a passing thought. Most of them are off the main highway so access to them is limited in times like this.
    Some good news though. The laws are going to changed to allow hazard reduction burning by landowners and in parks. Some time ago all access to national parks was blocked to vehicles and fire trails grew over. Cattle grazing that kept the undergrowth down was abolished. Now look what’s happened. A drought and fuel on the ground in the bush doesn’t work. Disaster.
    I will now step off my soap box and prey that tomorrow will not eventuate. Don’t like my chances though.

    This time last year, we were travelling back and forth to there to spend some precious time with Mum in her last days. I feel blessed that this wasn’t happening then otherwise she would left without me.
    Sorry, an anniversary coming up. Bit raw.

    I cannot begin to imagine what you are all going through. It is beyond comprehension. But hoping and praying you are all safe. Feel helpless across the other side of the world watching the destruction.

    Its heartbreaking for all involved, peoples homes and livelihoods destroyed, the wildlife etc. Your brave firefighters are doing a wonderful job and I hope they and everyone else stay safe{-(^^)-}

    It is good to see updates from some of you..I worry about those we aren't seeing. :( As a Canadian who has seen my share of fires I cannot comprehend how much of your country is on fire. I guess I should be thankful for our winter snowstorms.

    She’ll be fine. I sent her to the supermarket to get some long life milk.....just in case the milk truck can’t get through. Nothing worse than dry cornflakes.
    They are prepared, house guttering filled with water and plugged up. Car filled with petrol. Phones charged within an inch of their lives.They aren’t in the bush, closer to the town but if it gets nasty there will be ember attacks. The wind is the problem.

    Like others, I just can't begin to imagine what it must be like to be living through these terrible fires. We see the short reports on the news and that's horrific enough. My heart goes out to all of you in Australia, even if the fires aren't immediately affecting you, you probably, like Sue, have friends and family who are having to watch their neighbourhoods burn. Thank goodness you are a 'tough lot'

    It is a dreadful thing to watch and I must admit when it appears on the news I watch through my fingers.
    Horrific to see what is happening to people and wildlife.

    Which can be just as deadly.
    After as much as we've been seeing here, I watch through tears, because there is nothing I can do to help or ease the hurts of those affected. Even trying to donate beds-which are seldom used these days- we are told you cannot donate mattress. Health & safety gone mad. hotels & motels & B&Bs couldn't be any cleaner than these which were regularly vacuumed & had protectors on them. I don't wan to see anymore of fires or prime [?] ministers being told what for. The comparison between 3 countries I could mention but won't is just too much.

    I hear that so far 3 million hectares are now lost and what -- 19 fatalities? There must be an end in sight.
