I'm guessing 'Old Stone Face' may be able to help there. Send her a p.m.

Remember to wait a fair space of time to let the party concerned work it out & get back to you.:reading:

Many records of French civil registration are online. If it's that Boulogne-sur-mer death you're after, this looks like the place to go:

    http://www.
    archivespasdecalais.fr/Archives-en-ligne

Choose 'État civil' and then 'Actes', type in the first few letters of the place name (there are several possible options for Boulogne), tick 'Décès' under 'Type d'acte', fill in the year and click 'Rechercher'. You should then get an image viewer opening where you can browse through images of the death register.

P.S. hope the link works: at some point you have to tick a thing accepting terms & conditions but I can't make that pop up again.

Well done Sis - having a dodgy leg has some compensations  Sorry, but my French is almost non-existent, otherwise I would offer to help.

The entry in the register is a bit of a mess! They seem to have written in the wrong details at first. Instead of crossing out the whole thing they have crossed out two chunks and squashed the replacement text in the margin. Here is my attempt at transcription:

    74. John Jaques

L'an mil huit cent quarante-six et le six Février
à midi et demi, pardevant Nous sousigné, Adjoint
délégué du Maire de la ville de Boulogne-sur-mer, sont
comparus [three lines deleted here and replaced with the text in the first marginal note marked with // struck through - see below], demeu-
rant à Boulogne, lequels(?) nous ont déclaré que [more text deleted here and replaced with text in the second marginal note marked with a / struck through] ainsi que nous nous en sommes assuré. Aprés lecture
    les comparants ont signé.
[signatures of Alfred Stubbs, Lequeux, A. Martinel(?)]

    [First marginal note, marked //]
    Alfred Stubbs, marchand d'antiquités,
agé de trente-sept(?) ans, et Fione(?) Lequeux
commissionnaire, agé de vingt-sept ans, tous
deux - Renvoi bon et approuvé vingt-
    huit mots rayés nuls(?)
    [same signatures here]

[Second marginal note, marked / ]
    John Jaques, rentier, demeurant
    [same signatures again]

Here is a rough translation; I hope someone else with better French will come along and polish it!

    74. John Jaques
The year 1846 and 6 February
at 12.30 p.m., before us the undersigned, deputy
delegate of the Mayor of the town of Boulogne-sur-mer,
appeared [deleted text here - replaced with 1st marginal note], living
at Boulogne, which we have declared, that [deleted text here - replaced with 2nd marginal note] as we are assured. After reading
    (those appearing?) signed.
[signatures of Alfred Stubbs, Lequeux, A. Martinel(?)]

    [First marginal note]
    Alfred Stubbs, dealer in antiquities
aged 37 years, and Fione(?) Lequeux,
    commissionaire, aged 27 years, both
[then something about the 28 words struck through]
    [same signatures here]

    [Second marginal note]
    John Jaques, annuitant, living
in this commune[?], native of London, aged
    58 years, husband of
Martha Grove (other information could not be transmitted to us)
died on this day at 3.15 a.m.
at his house, 19 route de Calais.
[the last bit is something about the forty-something words and one number which were struck through]
    [same signatures again]
