    Not sure this is the correct place but............

    If wanting to know more about an old Company mentioned in records, then this Guide might by of use. It traces name changes and areas of Industrial involvement.

    Also, for the whereabouts of company records, see the National Register of Archives. For reasons best known to themselves, the National Register of Archives has now been incorporated in the National Archives catalogue, Discovery.

    Anyone looking for business records may find it more productive to use the "Record Creator" search and specify the industry sector.

    For example I wanted the records of the Player's cigarette firm. So I used Player as a keyword together with Creator type = business, category = Food, drink and tobacco, sub-category = Tobacco. Hitting Search then brings up the details of John Player & Sons Ltd. Not surprisingly, the records are at Nottinghamshire Archives.
