Not sure if I am putting this in the right forum but I am having difficulty logging into the GRO. I have a Macbook. Now I have successfully done this for years but now I am denied access by an error code

NET::ERR_CERT_REVOKED It says this site has compromised my security. I have cleared my cookies and browsing history but this still appears.

Shall I panic? Or does anyone know what this means

    With thanks Elizabeth

I've seen this mentioned on another forum, and an answer was posted which suggested the problem was at the GRO's end. However, there are a few simple(ish) things you can try:

    1. Make sure your computer's date and time settings are correct
    2. One person suggested making sure you use a full URL, ie
    Code:
    https://www.gro.gov.uk/
    rather than
    Code:
    https://gro.gov.uk/
    3. Try a different browser - the reports I saw suggested Chrome flagged this up more than others.

Personally I always go straight to
    Code:
    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp
I don't know if this bypasses the problem, but I'm using Firefox on Windows so might not get it anyway.

This site gives a good explanation of what this error is and some possible fixes. The top of the page is for website owners (eg in this case the GRO) the bottom part gives reasons and fixes if the cause is at the users end

    Code:
    https://www.ssl2buy.com/wiki/fix-neterr_cert_revoked-error-chrome-ie-mac-windows
The site is one where website owners can go to buy security certificates to comply with the httpS that all browsers are now insisting upon.

I had a similar problem a while back but I was asked to change my password. I did so & all is well again

Thanks Arthur for this, I am working through your list but no luck so far, didn't do all as I got fed up and decided it needed a new day and a clear head. I am refreshed now, so here goes. I will let you know how things go. I appreciate your reply.

Thanks WelchRegLost I did try this but it didn't work for me. Back again trying things this morning. If only all our problems were this small.
    Thanks again

Top Bloke, Top Marks arthurk :D I've got there. These things may be simple to some but to others not so easy. I am so glad I asked.

    Thank you so much Elizabeth

Don't keep us in suspense - which was the solution that worked?

(Except for the direct link that I gave, the suggestions came from other people and I've never needed to test whether they actually work, so I can't really claim any credit for them.)

Well I went through them all yesterday no joy but thought today I would try again. It was a different browser with the link that you use. I had tried that link in Chrome no joy, so I had a try today in Safari (which I had already tried with different links).
I dont know if this makes sense . My husband would say I dont usually but he couldn't help!!!
    Thanks again

It did seem to be Chrome where people were having problems, and I've always found it a nuisance to have to use a different browser for certain sites.

Ideally, I think, the GRO need to get something fixed at their end.

It's one of my always open tabs, if it's been a while I just have to refresh and it loads up my last search results. if it's been even longer it might take me right back to log in, but I don't normally have any issues with it :) Oh and I use Chrome because this is a Chromebook, but my tablet is a Kindle and the browser is called Silk, and that works in a similar way

I had the same problem a few months ago and getting the URL correct was the solution as arthurk has posted.

Going off piste slightly I find that different browsers sometimes produce different results on all sorts of things. I use a Mac and of course it has Safari as it's native browser. But Safari is quite poor when it comes to using Google Maps (I use it a lot to see how close villages I've never heard of may be to my family locations). Chrome however is part of the same Google family so I use Chrome for Google Maps and it works fine.
