I am trying to work out what are the four ships my relative sailed on, especially the last two on this list. Has anyone any suggestions, thank you? Ships.jpg

I read them as Volcano, Howe, Imperieuse and Fisgard.

I did a search on the last two, and they appear to have been RN shore-based postings. Google has a variety of references.

The last one I believe is Fisgard.

"HMS Fisgard was a 46-gun fifth-rate frigate built in 1819 and sold in 1879 after serving as a training vessel at Woolwich' (Wiki).

Thanks, I believe the years are for the time spent at sea, well it says Total Service Afloat or in Foreign Stations. I am quite excited at these latest records from the Archives, now I just have to improve my naval history. Two of my family joined up on the same day in 1841 and both served over 21 years!

A good place to start is here

There's a lot of useful information and Naval social history covering about 1793-1920, including an index to 5000 ships :)
